Stellar Nutrition in Canton Local
For the third year in a row, the Canton Local Schools has received a Stellar Award for Best Nutritional Practices from the Ohio Department of Education. Only 34 of the state's school districts received this award in 2011.

Ohio Department of Education Recognizes Six as "Schools of Promise" in Stark County

 

Although students in these schools come from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, they show that with the right learning supports, all students can achieve at high levels. - Stan Heffner, Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction

   

For the last ten years, the Ohio Department of Education has recognized schools across Ohio where all students are achieving at high levels in math and reading, despite the fact that 40% or more are from low-income backgrounds. Stark County schools recognized as Schools of Promise this year are[1]:

  

Fairless Elementary and Fairless High Schools (Fairless Local), Fairhope Elementary and Louisville Elementary Schools (Louisville City), Gorrell Elementary School (Massillon City), and Minerva High School (Minerval Local).

 

Behind Cuyahoga, Stark shared a three-way tie for second place with Trumbull and Hocking Counties for the largest number of Schools of Promise in any Ohio County.
