Less Poverty by Education Level in Stark than State and Nation

Education continues to pay dividends in Stark County.

The release on Tuesday of the U.S. Census Bureau's new five-year American Community Survey (ACS) estimates shows that adults by education level are less likely to be impoverished in Stark County than either the state or nation.

The new five year estimates, covering 2005-2009, represent the first time the ACS has calculated social, economic, housing and demographic statistics for every community in the nation.

Before ACS, estimates were only produced once every 10 years through tabulations of responses to the decennial census "long form." Those estimates required two years to tabulate and by the end of any given decade, decision and policy makers often had to rely on 10-year-old data. ACS data is released on a yearly basis.
