An estimated 1,500 Stark County students took the equivalent of 3,508 three hour college courses in high school last year, surpassing a previous high of 1,400 students and 2,856 courses in 2010-11.

Stark Dual Credit courses up 23%

All Stark County high schools offer such dual credit courses, which enable students to earn college and often high school credit for the same course. Dual credit in Stark County is taught by high school teachers who qualify as college adjuncts at the high schools.

Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between the school district and college/university ensure course quality, guarantee costs, and provide support services for students.

For more information see SEP's publication, Local Partnership, Local Growth, that looks at dual credit and other post secondary opportunities to earn college credit offered to Stark County students during 2012-13.
