Dr. Laura leads students through dealing with stress
'Tis a busy time of year with holiday commitments and preparations, and for students facing finals and papers and college applications. On top of all the frenzied end-of-the year/semester worries are the constant stressors of social media, heightened self-expectations, and relationships with others. Students who attended this past Saturday's workshop with Dr. Laura Chackes left with some excellent strategies for dealing with any of life's chaos, including the idea that some stress is actually a good thing.

The insightful dialogue of the morning began with sharing particular stress markers and then walking through a variety of ideas for tackling them. Dr. Laura shared a Stress Management Plan and a Thought Challenging activity for students to use and then guided everyone through a 10-minute mindfulness meditation. Thanks to Laura's calm and soothing guidance, it was a morning of truth and time awareness that ended with a readiness to tackle the remainder of the year.

Dr. Laura shared a number of valuable resources with students on Saturday. We've made them available here.

This Saturday -- Issues Roundtable at Civitas, plus special video on Rohingya in Myanmar from student at Nerinx Hall

Saturday, December 16 will be our first free-for-all discussion group this school year at Civitas. Students can discuss whatever topics are of interest to them, be they international, domestic, local, or even school-related.

In addition, we will have a special presentation of a new video from Nerinx Hall senior Barb Kuensting. Students can sign up by clicking here.
Surveys:
Results from last week:

Do you think that Donald Trump is mentally stable enough to be president of the United States?

If you said 'no,' do you think that:
[Note: respondents could provide more than one answer to this question.]

Three Comments:

"no. whoever wrote this needs to be checked for mental stability, this is the most biased libtard survey I have ever seen..."

"Donald Trump has broken the record for arrests and indictments within the Republican Presidency. His words are all over the place. When will he start sticking to the script?"

"I really think this is all a huge overreaction. Sure, he isn't the most traditional of presidents and I certainly don't love him but he hasn't done anything inherently wrong as president. That's better than some other high position holders, like Hilary Clinton."

This Week:
One question survey (you can also comment)

On a scale of '1' to '5,' how clued in do you think that administrators at your school are to the stress that high school students experience?
