From the Desk of the Pastor

It is hard for me to believe that the school year is already coming to a close.

As I think about this, my first year here at St. Isidore's, I am amazed by the faith of our students and humbled by the blessings I have received simply by being in their presence.

Again, I want to thank you for your continued prayers and your support.

We have already begun planning ways in which we will be able to reach out to encounter even more students next year.

Please continue to pray that each and every student, here, at Kansas State, will come to encounter our living God so as to make this place a light to all the world.

Sincerely,
Fr. Gale Hammerschmidt
Prayer and Action

Prayer and Action is a retreat that integrates both the spiritual and sacramental aspects of our faith with service to the local comm unity.
Fr. Gale founded the program; it began in the Diocese of Salina in 2006.  Each spring, St. Isidore's
takes the five day program offered by the Diocesan Office of Youth Ministry and makes it available to the college students at Kansas State University for one weekend.

This year's Prayer and Action at St. Isidore's took place April 13-15.  The weekend began with "Collatio" --"Come Together" in latin-- on Friday evening that included praise and worship, skits, and a reflection.  On Saturday about 40 students went out to serve the local Manhattan community.  During this time  of service, students:

  • repaired a hole in a wall, put up doors and painted the bathroom of a Manhattan resident
  • put up new cupboards in the kitchen of a Manhattan resident
  • painted part of the gym and scrubbed wall pads at Manhattan Catholic Schools
  • sanitized and organized toys in the classrooms of Headstart
  • gardened and cleaned out the garage of Manhattan residents
  • painted the basement of St. Paul Episopal Church
After serving and spending time together in the community, students joined back together for "Collatio" and ended with Mass together on Sunday.
Student Center Olympics

On April 28, 60 students from Kansas State, Fort Hays State, Washburn,  Be nedictine, and Emporia State joined together for the fi rstever Catholic Student Center Olympics at the Kansas State World War I Memorial Stadium.

Competitions included: softball throw, standing long jump, 1600 meter run, 100 meter run, 4x100 meter run, potato sack race, three legged race, tug of war, hula hoop marathon, spike ball, and corn hole.

Ethan Stueve, senior, shared that "the purpose of the Student Center Olympics was to h ave fun and fellows hip among the Kansas Catholic College students."

Students joined together at City Park for a BBQ and a special Mass for the competitors to conclude the festivities of the day.
Thank you to all who made donations during the
GROW GREEN Match Day on Fri. April 20 .

$22,786.00 were donated to our endowed fund with the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation.
