Volume 2 Issue 26
April 2012
Greetings!

Earth Week has finally arrived! Are you ready to celebrate the beauty that surrounds us and attend some awesome events? This week stock-full of exciting programs, lectures, conferences, and festivals all focused on one topic: our earth and how we can keep it (and us) healthy!  Tufts gets green Logo

While there are events throughout the week, the main Earth Day event on campus,Tufts Sustainability Collective's annual Earth Fest, will be held on Friday, April 20th from 1-5pm on the Academic Quad! Stop by to partake in fun eco-friendly activities including a clothing swap by the Eco Reps, a Student Action Squad BYOShirt tie-dye; a composting workshop; plant-your-own seeds by Tom Thumb's Garden, and of course delicious free food! There will be live music and a wide variety of info booths. Come one, come all - let's have some outdoor fun learning about and celebrating the earth!

Set aside some time for your planet this weekend, whether you attend the Tufts Energy Conference, go to a screening of YERT: Your Environmental Road Trip, or listen to Professor Moomaw's lecture on climate change. Should none of these events catch your eye, just take a step outside and enjoy nature's springtime splendor - you just might be inspired to "green" your life.

-Anne Elise Stratton
Communications Intern, Tufts Office of Sustainability

P.S. Don't know how you're going to keep this multitude of environment-related events straight? Luckily, we've added them all to our Environmental Calendar, located on the Office of Sustainability website. The front page of our website and our blog also have detailed event information, as always.

Introducing... the Tufts EcoTour
EcoTour sign
Did you know that Tufts University has one of the longest environmental histories in higher education? We are sharing some highlights from our sustainable past (and present) through a new Eco Tour, which we are launching this week in conjunction with Earth Fest.

Look for these signs around campus and scan the QR Code with a smart phone to find out more about each location. If you complete the tour and make it to the last stop (there are 10, half of them uphill and half of them downhill), you get a prize from the Office of Sustainability!

Don't forget that there's an easy way to keep track of what's going on in the Tufts sustainability community: the common Google calendar called Tufts Environmental Events
Additional (including non-Tufts) events are posted regularly on the TuftsGetsGreen blog Visit our blog and on our Facebook Like us on Facebook  page.

Set up a dedicated RSS feed to get real-time updates!

Before this Friday rolls around and Earth Fest gets into full swing, remember that the Eco-Reps will be there with their annual Clothing Swap! Drop off your gently used clothing at Carmichael, Dewick, the Campus Center, or any dorm that has an Eco-Rep.

Drop-off boxes will be out until Friday morning. If you can't make it to a box beforehand, feel free to bring donations by the event on Friday, from 1-3pm!

Green Media

Earth Week: seven days set aside for this planetary body we take for granted so many other days of the year. While we at the Office of Sustainability work to  push the environment to the front of all our minds on a daily basis, this week acknowledges its importance on a global scale.

Check out the mission statement for Mobilize the Earth and join the movement to participate in a billion acts of green by Earth Day this Sunday!
