First Annual Funk Fest  
Cheese, mushrooms, kombucha, kimchi, sauerkraut, charcuterie, even wine, beer, coffee and chocolate... they're all considered funky foods. Join us tomorrow for the Easton Market District's first ever Funk Fest and come celebrate the power (and deliciousness) of fermented foods outside at EFM, and inside at EPM. Brewed, pickled, ripend or foraged... these foods all have amazing health benefits. Come learn more about probiotics, lacto-fermentation and more, and and get your funk on with us. Two River's Brewing will be our featured vendor in the in the Local Libations Tent, and we have some great guest vendors joining us for the day including Philly's famous Food and Ferments, featuring live cultured food and drink, including Fireside Tonic, krauts, beet kvass and more. Kriemhild Dairy (a vendor whose product is regularly available in the Highmark Farmstand) will also be on site for the fest with meadow butter and creme fraiche - stop by and sample some. And... what's a funk fest without PICKLES! We'll welcome NJ Pickles who will be setting up a double-wide tent, loaded with mouth puckering goodness! Our friends from Chocodiem will also be joining up for the day with some some chocolately delights. And stop by Valley Milkhouse's tent to visit with the Pennsylvania Cheese Guild.

Phickle Foods Booch Class
- 10:00 am - Noon Author and blogger Amanda Feifer has a long-standing crush on food and beverage fermentation. Since she left the world of Big Food in early 2011, she's been teaching classes that range from kefir and kombucha to koji and kvass. She writes the fermentation blog Phickle, and wrote the book on vegetable fermentation (Ferment Your Vegetables, Fair Winds Press). Saturday's class will teach you the ins and outs of kombuca making and everyone will go home with a bottle of kombucha flavored in class, and their own jar of kombucha to ferment, complete with a SCOBY. Kombucha samples will be provided by Easton Farmers' Market vendor, Don DeVault of Pheasant Hill Farm. $35/pp REGISTER HERE

Dirk Quinn Duo Ready to Funk things Up!

Dirk Quinn is the namesake and guitarist for a high energy funk/jazz band based out of Philadelphia that travels extensively throughout the US and Canada.  Utilizing over a decade of steady performing, Quinn has developed a unique and progressive style - one that appeals to a wide variety of music listeners.  Dirk and his band mate, Corey Munzert, will be performing at EFM's Funk Fest as an acoustic duo - come hear their funky music!!

Farmer Nate just returned from the PA Meat Processors convention in State College where Breakaway won a Grand Champion award for their Garlic & Juniper Coppa and a Reserve Grand Champion award for their Orange & Fennel Lonza!! This week Team Breakaway rolls out the long awaited, award winning, charcuterie that everyone's been waiting for! Come see Sarah & Peter and select from a wide variety such as Coppa, Lonza, Prosciutto, Salami & more. You'll definitely want to take a bite out of this!! 
Garden Geeks at Peace Tree Farm 

Peace Tree Farm  got the Horticultural Funk! Check out the Garden Geek line of funky aromatics such as Scented Geraniums, Melianthus Peanut Butter  Plant, Patchouli, and of course USDA certified organic herbs! Now is the time to plant up your containers and flower beds. Peace Tree has gorgeous color for you! Hanging baskets, flowering annuals and perennials such as Abutilon Biltmore Ballgown (pictured), Buttery Snapdragons, unusual fancy leaf Geraniums, Dianthus, and more! And don't forget their very own Lavender Phenomenal!

Surkey Salad 

Aladdin is featuring a delicious salad called Surkey. Made with an aged Syrian cheese (similar to Halloumi), tomato, onion cucumber and green peppers it's amazing and the cheese is definitely funky!

You Betch your Booch!

Look for a brand new batch of kombucha this week as we see the season's first strawberries with sage blossom; borage; fresh camomile and lavender, rosemary mint, and lemon bomb. Good stuff! Don will also be giving away free scobies - in case you want to try your hand at making your own booch!

Calling all Curd Nerds!

Beth and Dave were very grateful for last week's rain which gave them an abundance of crops to harvest the last few days and cooler days for the market this coming weekend. They have plenty of funky favorites including CHEESE, Yogurt, Raw Milk, Cottage Cheese (yes 2 weeks in a row) Curds (everyone has raved about the new pizza curds so if you didn't try them last week we recommend you grab a container this week)! Cage free brown eggs too, and of course beef. Bad Farm has limited steaks due to high demand but more will be coming soon. Good news is they will have plenty of hamburger patties ready to throw on the grill for these hot summer evenings when you need a quick supper before kids end of the school year events. No excuses not to get down to the market this Saturday the weather will be AWESOME!!

Carrots Arrive this Week at Salvaterra's Gardens

Carrots join beets on the root veggie stage at Salvaterra's this week. And salad continues to be the word of the day with ... romaine, lettuce mix, head lettuce, mesclun mix, and zesty arugula all waiting to be tossed with your favorite dressing (psst... yogurt makes a great base for dressing)! If you prefer to cook your greens, check out the crisp collards, Swiss chard, kale, bok choy and spinach. Scallions and radishes will be plentiful and fresh herbs like cilantro, dill, and parsley are at their best!

Kudos for Most Creative Funk Fest Product!

Karen and Skip wracked their brains to come with something truly unique for Funk Fest. And they did it with their spent grain pizza crust, made with spent grains from Easton's Weyerbacher Brewing Company! So grab a fresh baked crust and shop the market for the toppings - we've got plenty of creamy cheese, fresh veggies,  and pepperoni too!

You can't get much funkier than a Scotch Egg! Leave it to those wacky Scots to come up with this pub favorite - a hard boiled egg, incased in sausage, and deep fried. Say what? Yep, get 'em from Heidi this week only! But that's not all she has cookin'. Look for her cape cod chicken salad; Alaskan red salmon salad; quinoa & asparagus salad; roasted beet & goat cheese salad; eggplant lasagna; veal cannelloni; stuffed mini artichokes; lemon herb goat cheese & pistachio spread; old bay lump crab dip and meatballs in marina. Plus... a  chocolate, cherry bread pudding w/ applejack - vanilla - rum sauce (bread from Saxman's & Liquor from Eight Oaks)....pot pies, pasta and more!

Fresh baked sourdough bread, naturally bloomed from the air is about as funky as you can get! But Flour Shop will also have a smoked organic chicken panini with spinach, mushroom and carmelized onions. Look for some other surprises too!

Valley Milkhouse
Debuts first batch of Spring Butter

Stefanie will have her full funky cheese line-up in all its glory, and plenty of that creamy sheep's milk yogurt for this week's fest! And she's running a Spring butter special! This week's butter is the first batch made with the cream of cows on lush spring pasture. If you've never eaten cultured butter from grassfed cows, youare in for a real treat - it taste like butter did in the 'old days." Special Offer: buy 3 containers for $12 and stock up for spring! Remember that cultured butter freezes nicely and can be stored for several months this way.

Also: Foxtail feta returns in a new variety: local herbs! A thin layer of locally grown herbs is sprinkled on top of the fresh curd before brining. The feta is then aged for 1 month giving it tangy flavors with a touch of herbs that taste like spring!

Blooming Glen is back at the market this week with radishes, green garlic, salad greens, bok choy, spinach and chard. So come say hi and stock up on their certified organic goodness!

Sycamore Grill is featuring a funky grilled cheese this week with goat cheese, shoestring beets, pickled onions and a balsamic glaze! They'll also offer a Funky Mushroom Scramble - sautéed Primordia mushrooms, sautéed onions, and shredded cheese with fluffy scrambled eggs and served with toast.

Scholl Orchards will be featuring their Apple cider vinegar for funk fest this weekend. They'll be debuting their blueberry infused apple cider vinegar. Customers can stop over for a free sample of either one. They are $6 or 2 for $10. They'll also also have apples (gold rush, pink lady, Fuji and honey crisp), apple cider, pears, asparagus, spring onions, radishes and rhubarb.
Fresh & Local Cocktails at Eight Oaks Distillery

Eight Oaks will be selling their American Gin, Authentic Applejack, Colonial Rum, American Vodka & Penna Rye Whiskey this week. Planning a geaduation party? How about offering some fresh & local cocktails? This week Chad and crew will be serving a cocktail sample of their Hibiscus Lemonade- it is so refreshing! Made with their house made dried hibiscus flower syrup, lemonade and American Vodka. The perfect summer cocktail!

Mental Health Awareness Month

As we get older, life's changes can impact us in many different ways, triggering a change in mood or thinking that disrupts our daily lives. That's when our loved ones need the support of specially trained individuals who can improve their well-being. With 16-inpatient beds, the Behavioral Health Unit at Easton Hospital is designed to educate patients and families to better manage their conditions and offer a combination of psychiatric and medical care to help patients overcome those conditions. May is Mental Health Awareness Month so stop by our table as we discuss how we can help with older adult behavioral health needs.
