Taking the Pledge

As most of you are aware, on September 19, 2014, President Obama and Vice President Biden announced the "It's On Us" public awareness and education campaign. The campaign's goal is to engage college students, with a particular emphasis on men, and all campus community

members to help prevent sexual assault. A key aspect to the "It's On Us" campaign is the concept of a social norm change, or behavior change. In this case, research shows that bystander intervention plays "a key role in preventing, discouraging, and/or intervening when an act of violence has the potential to occur." To help encourage this action, "It's On Us" created a pledge which states in part:

This pledge is a personal commitment to help keep women and men safe from sexual assault.

It is a promise not to be a bystander to the problem, but to be a part of the solution.

We built Margolis Healy with a mission to help colleges, universities and K-12 schools improve safety and security for their campus communities. Our work brings us to your campuses, and for days, weeks or months at a time, we become a part of your communities. With this in mind, we believe it was crucial for us to join and support the "It's On Us" campaign.

We are pleased to announce that the entire Margolis Healy team has taken the "It's On Us" pledge. We strongly believe that we all have a role to play in the issue of sexual assault, which is affecting all institutions of higher education, and even though we are not members of your campus, we are not exempt from taking responsibility in the efforts to prevent sexual violence in the campus communities we serve nationwide.

We encourage you, and your institution, to become involved with the "It's On Us" campaign and take the pledge.
