Welcome!

February 2012 marks our first ever newsletter. An endeavor rich in creativity and inpiration. It is our hope that by creating this little community of mindful folks (who are looking to live more simply and with joyful hearts) we will be able to inspire a generation of creative and fulfilled souls to help guide and teach and 'Be the change".

It's a Simple Life started as a blog back in 2009. This space has evolved many times, seeking its greater purpose and meaning. It's creator, Marcy, is a devoted wife and mother to 4, soon to be 5, children living a life inspired by Waldorf traditions and simple living.

This newsletter space will be used monthly to keep everyone up to speed on our latest blog posts, what's new in our Etsy shop, recipes, free patterns and tutorials, links to other inspirational kindred spirits, ideas on living simply and with intention, book recommendations, events and other festivals we will attend and/or support.

We are so honored that you have joined us on this 'merry journey'. We look forward to sharing this space and this time with you and hope that you feel right at home. Please, feel free to share any thoughts or ideas, what you would like to see more of, less off, or other like minded information you may have with us by sending an email to:: rhythimicsilenceblog@gmail.com

With wishes for health and warmth,

A Simply Beautiful

Valentine's Day

Photo from Bending Birches

Bending Birches is one of my favorite blogs to follow. Rebecca has such a gentle and loving way about her, caring for children in a Waldorf inspired homecare program, inviting and sharing her readers along with her on many journeys, through life's triumphs and tribulations and through the every day which is most certainly celebrated for being what it is. Her hope and creativity are endless. I find her work and craft to bring a deep sense of contemplation and reverence to how we build our rhythms in our own home.Here is a link to her Valentine Vignettes post. I hope you find it a wonderful inspiration to how simple and meaning celebrating Valentine's Day can be!

Lenten Pretzels

Recipe::

Combine 1 1/2 cups of warm water, 1 tablespoon of sweetener, and 2 teaspoons of salt. Add to this one packet of dry active yeast. Let this mixture sit for a few minutes until it has proofed (becomes foamy). Add 4 1/2 cups of flour, one cup at a time, along with 4 tablespoons of melted butter. Once the dough has come together, pour it out on to a clean surface and knead until springy (about 5 minutes). Return the kneaded dough into a large, oiled bowl and let rise for one hour.

Once the dough has doubled, pour out onto a cutting board and cut into 8 equal portions. *At this time, prepare a large pot with 10 cups of water and 2/3 cup of baking soda and have it heating to a rolling boil.* Roll each portion into a long rope (about 18-24 inches).

Hold each end of the rope and form it into a "U" shape. Still holding the ends, twist the ends around each other 2-3 times and then meet them together at the bottom of the "U". Pinch the dough together. Complete the rest of the ropes. Pre-heat your oven to 450 degrees.

Now that the ropes are 'tied' and your water is boiling, place one pretzel at a time in the water bath. Let it sit in the boiling water for about 30-45 seconds. Remove from the water with a slotted spatula and return to cookie sheet. Once they have all been boiled, brush them with a solution of 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of water. Sprinkle them with kosher salt and bake until they are golden brown (about 10-12 minutes).
