Illness is down 46%

It's well known that cat health is quickly and negatively impacted by stress. The DRHS researched various strategies for reducing the stress experienced by cats in a shelter environment. We have incorporated enrichment tools and fun spaces for our felines to reduce stress, therefore, illness.

In 2016, we decreased cat illness by 46%.  This was, in part, accomplished by creating new areas and enrichment activities for our cats.  We made portals between enclosures for our felines to crawl through and we added cat atriums that bring more space and room to roam for our felines.  We also have purchased Cat E Shack carriers that serve as hiding spots and resting perches.

We would love to keep producing great numbers for the health of our felines.  We are in need of the above pictured cat wheel to help our cats stay happy and healthy.  If you can help us secure a " One Fast Cat Wheel" exercise tool, please email  Melissa Palfrey .   For more information on the cat wheel please  click here .

Hungry for the Cold

Pets burn extra energy by trying to stay warm in wintertime. Feeding your pet a little bit more during the cold weather months can provide much-needed calories, and making sure they have plenty of water to drink will help keep your pet well-hydrated and their skin less dry.
