CASY & IBM Support Texas ChalleNGe Academy
CASY and the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe program launched the first IBM “Tech” SkillsBuild Workshop over the weekend of April 14-15 with volunteers from IBM and Academy staff. The initiative addresses the widening tech skills gap in workforce development by matching IBM training experts with cadets in the highly successful Youth ChalleNGe program.

Leah Dienger, John Quillinan, George Jacob, Nidhi Shah, Dee Waddell, Martin Laird, Ram Subramanian, and Marvin Goodly  were on hand from IBM as well as CASY's Curtis Hazel to assist cadets.
Cadets learned about Key Technologies: Skills for the 21st Century Design Thinking, Empathy Mapping and Empathy Mapping Playback, and Artificial Intelligence: Creating an Empathetic Chatbot.

Selected Cadets will continue in the program, attending an intensive six week training course that will allow them to complete an IBM program certification.
Congrats, Danyel, Our Latest Spouse Success Story

Hiring Challenge: It was hard to find a job that fit my schedule and my family. It was very difficult finding something with the hours and location that best fit me. Jenna Weakly really helped me target my resume and find the perfect position.

Assistance Received: Jenna Weakly and I worked on my targeted resume to help with my job search. After we were finished with the resume, we began searching for jobs. Initially, we were looking at hospitality jobs. That changed because the hours demanded by hospitality did not fit the hours I needed. Jenna reassessed and suggested we start looking at customer service jobs. We then revised my resume to target customer service jobs. I received a lot of responses during this process, but only one that was perfect: the Convergys work from home customer service job. Jenna was there to answer any questions I had and assisted me throughout the process.

Results: Without Jenna’s assistance, I do not believe that I would have gotten this job. I believe this job could very well become a career. There were many times where my personal life became overwhelming, and I broke communication, but that did not stop Jenna. She called regularly and sent reminders. Without MSCCN and Jenna, I would still be out there looking for a job.

Value of Experience: This was a great experience. I would recommend this organization to any military spouse or retired military member. Jenna really listened to what I wanted, and she was more patient than many people I have ever worked with. I was skeptical whether I would actually find what I wanted, but I did--all thanks to Jenna.
