FuRR teams with Joey the Garden Cat to save Izard

Last Thursday we learned of an injured kitty, who bears a striking resemblance to our friend Joey the Garden Cat (Today's THV's world famous weather garden cat), living on Izard Street in the vicinity of the THV studios. The station's general manager first noticed the cat and immediately alerted Theba Lolley, Joey's "momma/agent" and Director of Media and Community Relations for THV. FuRR contacted Theba with an offer of help, and before we knew it Izard had been trapped and whisked to FuRR's vet Dr. Cole Bierbaum. Izard was given a full work-up: his leg was checked and found to be sprained but not seriously injured; he was tested for FIV and FLEUK (both tests negative..YAY!) neutered, and vaccinated. FuRR will cover all of Izard's medical expenses under our Medicat program. We assume Izard was born on the streets and is therefore technically feral, but he shows some signs of being more sociable once he recovers from the stresses of the past few days. He is being fostered in a FuRR foster home where he will be assessed for sociability, and FuRR will work with Joey and his momma/agent Theba to find just the right placement for Izard. FuRR is always thrilled to be able to work with other individuals, rescue and community groups, and even media stars like Joey the Garden Cat, to rescue and rehome injured, abandoned, and feral cats. Thanks to   everyone at Today's THV, especially the general manager who first noticed Izard, Joey and his momma/agent Theba for caring enough to rescue this sweet boy, Joey's friend Donna who trapped Izard, and of course thanks to our amazing vet Dr. Cole Bierbaum for giving Izard such fantastic care.  (Donations to help cover Izard's medical   expenses can be made via paypal on our website - www.teamfurr.org - or by mail to FuRR, PO Box 250567, Little Rock AR 72225. Please specify that your donation is for Izard.)

Feral cats need your help!

A big part of FuRR's mission is caring for feral cats in the Little Rock area, by managing colonies, undertaking a TNR (trap/neuter/release) program, and providing medical care to injured and sick ferals. In celebration of St Patrick's Day Shadow, FuRR's PR kitty, asks you to bring the luck of the Irish to these feral cats by donating a little "green" to Operation Jack, our feral cat TNR program. Shadow knows firsthand that these funds will help FuRR provide spay/neuter, vaccinations, eartipping, food, and medical care for these needy and deserving cats. These undomesticated felines linger around the edges of human contact, quietly sharing our neighborhoods and trying to survive without benefit of regular access to food and water or veterinary care. These independent spirits need our compassion and help. Widely recognized by experts and researchers as the most humane and effective way to manage feral cat populations, TNR involves safely trapping, altering , and releasing feral cats into safe locations, or "colonies," where they will receive faithful long-term monitoring, feeding and care. In addition to preventing their numbers from skyrocketing, this comprehensive program gives feral cats longer, healthier lives, graced by the love of humans who respect them in all their wildness. Donations to the Operation Jack fund can be made via Paypal from the FuRR website (www.teamfurr.org) or by mail at FuRR, PO Box 250567, Little Rock AR 72225.

Help FuRR just by shopping at Kroger!

Now it is even easier to use your Kroger Plus Card to help FuRR! Kroger has simplified their community rewards program and it's as easy as 1-2-3. Kroger logo

Step one: register your Kroger Plus Card online at www.krogercommunityrewards.com and follow the instructions.

Step two: after registering your card, go to Account Settings and select FuRR as your community rewards recipient (search for FuRR using the Non Profit Organization (NPO) number - 80396  - or using Feline Rescue and Rehome).

Step three: SHOP! Once your card is registered and linkedto FuRR, we will begin receiving "rewards" every time you shop.

No longer do you have to "load" money on your Kroger Plus card prior to shopping. Now just scan your Kroger Plus Card when checking out and pay for your groceries however it is convenient for you. It's that easy but it means so much to FuRR and the cats we help. Last year we received almost $1,000 from the community rewards program and we're hopeful that this new, easier process will mean even more "rewards" from Kroger.

Upcoming events

This spring's Cat's Meow yard sale will be in May (date TBA) but it's never too early to start gathering your "stuff" to donate. Watch this space for more details. We also need a volunteer to coordinate the yard sale....if you've got a flexible schedule in May, an interest in sales and marketing, and a love for felines, please consider helping out with our yard sale.

Thanks for your support!

FuRR is entirely volunteer driven, and we could not do what we do without the generous support of our friends. We are so grateful for the financial dontions that allow us to fund activities like our monthly spay/neuter clinics, Operation Jack, and our Medicat program. We also so appreciate the donations we receive of food, litter, toys, bedding, and other necessities. And of course we love our volunteers who make it all possible. Thank you for your continued support as we work to improve the lives of cats and kittens in central Arkansas.
