What our members are saying...
"Carshare has been a great service for me as a college student in an unfamiliar city."
"Ithaca Carshare made my life during my graduate studies in Ithaca so much easier. I used it mostly for grocery shopping or day trips and it certainly prevented me from having to buy a car. I especially liked how easy it was for me as an international student to sign up for Ithaca Carshare!."

Sell your car, we dare you...
Ask yourself, do you really need that second car? Do you really even need that first car?
AAA and Consumer Reports agree - the answer could be worth $9000 a year
We're here again with a gentle nudge to answer those questions with a NO! Why pay for your car all of the time, when you can just pay for the times you actually need it? Use Ithaca Carshare for weekly grocery runs for a year, and your cost is probably under $1500.
Sell your car by October 15 and get an entire year It's My Car membership with Ithaca Carshare for FREE. Got a motivating story to go along with your choice to sell a car? There may be a free TCAT bus pass in it for you as well.

Outgoing Board President David Lieb
Jason Koski/Cornell University Photography
|
After five years leading the Ithaca Carshare Board of Directors, our Board President David Lieb has accepted the position of Director of Parking and Transportation Services for the University of Colorado, Boulder.
In addition to his presence at board meetings and member and volunteer events, you may have seen David representing Ithaca Carshare at Ithaca League of Women Rollers bouts.
David has brought dedicated and creative leadership to our work since before we even knew we were creating a new organization back in 2005 and 2006. From the beginning there was no swerving in the way his experience, vision (including in the rear-view mirror), connections and leadership provided fuel to make this new transportation initiative a reality. His steady foot on the pedal has led Ithaca Carshare through double-digit fleet growth and into membership of over 1,300. At every turn, David has brightly signaled to colleagues at Cornell and beyond the importance of that Ithaca Carshare in our city and campus communities.
Our staff and board are deflated to see him go, but wish David well in his new journey. Boulder is gaining a skillful driver of transportation demand management programs - and wecongratulate CU Boulder on their excellent choice.
Our elder sister organization eGo (formerly Boulder Carshare) will benefit as well from having such a strong ally of carsharing in a prominent local university position. eGo founder Karen Worminghaus helped with our founding in 2006, and we are certain David's contributions to sustainable and affordable transportation in Boulder will shine a headlight to their future continued success.
We are not hitting the brakes, however, and are excited to welcome Fernando de Aragón as our new Board Chair. David's presence (and puns) will be missed, though he has agreed to remain buckled in from afar as a member of our board.

Sharing: A welcome resource in current economy
Here's some info from a recent article in MarketWatch of the Wall Street Journal:
"New research in the Journal of Marketing published by the American Marketing Association suggests that sharing systems like Zipcar and cell phone minute pools may offer a welcome ownership alternative to cash-strapped consumers.
Importantly, results show that consumers evaluate sharing options intelligently, taking into account factors that would change their sharing experience and savings. As a result, sharing offers hope for efficient resource use and enhanced well-being in challenging economic times." Read the full article here.
