Costs going up ...
AAA's 2012 numbers are out, and the average cost of car ownership has gone up again this year to $0.59 cents per mile or $8,946 per year. That sounds bad, until you realize that it's equivalent to OVER 1000 HOURS worth of Ithaca Carshare use! Pair those savings with the avoided headaches of maintaining, insuring, and parking your own car, and carsharing is a pretty good deal!
However, increases in the costs of running a car also affect Ithaca Carshare and our growing fleet. (Did you know we now have 19 vehicles around town?)
We haven't seen a rate change since our launch four years ago in 2008, so be ready for annual/monthly membership and mileage rates to increase in the next month or so. We'll post details on our website as they are finalized.

Ithaca Carshare and Way2Go
Ithaca Carshare is hiring for a Fleet Coordinator. This 20-hour/week position starts at $12.78/hour and is focused on coordinating cleaning and maintenance of vehicles in the Ithaca Carshare fleet.
Familiarity and comfort with getting around town via bike, bus, or foot is a plus, as is familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance. Look for a more detailed posting at IthacaCarshare.org in the next few weeks. Apply by sending a resume, cover letter, and two references to anna@ithacacarshare.org.

May is National Bike Month! Ithaca Carshare is teaming up with local organizations and individuals to host Bike to Work Breakfast Stations around Ithaca on Friday May 18th.
Stop by any breakfast station on your bike that morning, grab a bite to eat as our thank you for biking, and be entered to win great prizes that will help you achieve a happy, healthy, car-free lifestyle!

Charlotte is a Toyota Yaris sedan. She is named after Charlotte the spider in Cornell graduate E.B. White's beloved novel, "Charlotte's Web", which is this year's Family Reading Partnership community read. Charlotte (#2339) is located at a new location in Fall Creek at the intersection of Aurora and Yates.

Beatrice is a Toyota Yaris sedan. She is named after silent movie star Beatrice Fairfax, who appeared in many films from the Wharton Brothers silent film studio, based at Stewart Park in the early 1900s. Beatrice (#6591) is located at a new location in Collegetown across from the Schwartz Performing Arts Center and Collegetown Bagels, at the end of Oak Avenue.  | Carl

Carl is a Toyota Yaris 3-door liftback. He is named after famous Cornell astronomer Carl Sagan, namesake of the ScienCenter's Sagan Planet Walk, a to-scale depiction of our solar system that spans across Ithaca. Carl's new home is at Seneca and Cayuga Sts, right next to Jupiter on the Planet Walk.
Thank you all the members who suggested great name ideas for our these vehicles!
With the addition of these cars, we've done some shifting around of the other vehicles in our fleet, including the addition of a third new location on Maple Avenue, just behind the TCAT bus shelter in the Cornell parking lot across the street from the Coal Yard Cafe and entrance to the East Hill Recreation Way.
Always take care to check that you have the right location and vehicle when booking reservations!
