FILMING INCENTIVES
Great news for New York's film and television industry: Governor Cuomo has proposed extending and enhancing the State's popular film and production tax credit program in this year's executive budget. The program, which has created thousands of jobs and injected billions of dollars into New York's economy, is positioning the state as "Hollywood East," and showing great potential for serious and sustained growth in Upstate New York.

POST PRODUCTION REACHES NEW HIGHS

Last July Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation that boosted New York State's Post Production Credit from 10% to 30%-35%. Since the legislation went into effect, projects have been coming to New York at an unprecedented rate. In six short months, the newly enhanced Post Production Credit has received double the applications than the original 10% program received in two years. Currently the program has 51 projects participating.
To qualify, productions must do 75% of their post production work in New York State even if the film was made elsewhere. As an added bonus, if the post work is done upstate, the credit increases to 35%. Read more here.

New York productions were well represented in the list of nominees for many 2012-2013 awards, including Golden Globes, Oscars, Writers Guild, Independent Spirit Awards, Screen Actors' Guild, the Producers' Guild, the Costume Designers Guild, American Film Institute's Annual Awards, and the GLAAD Media Awards!
Nomination categories ran the spectrum of industry talent from Best Actor, to Outstanding Writing, to Best Performance by an Ensemble, to Excellence in Costume Design. Full list of nominations here.
