Lifetime Achievement - Tom & Arlene Miller Miller Arabians
submitted by: Dr. Trevor Miller
Tom and Arlene Miller
been breeding, raising, training, and showing Arabian and Half- Arabian horses for over 60 years.
They started their breeding program as a young married couple when the purchased their
foundation mares from the renowned Kellogg Arabians, and then their foundation sire later at the Denver Colorado Live Stock auction.
Through the decades Tom and Arlene Miller have competed in nearly every division the Arabian breed offers both as a family and as professional horse trainers and breeders. Their passion for the breed has allowed them to live a lifetime with Arabians while watching their sons grow and
prosper as Arabian trainers and exhibitors, and now their grandchildren. It has indeed been a family affair! to read more...

"Casey" - The Making of an Endurance Horse
submitted by: Robin Everett
Many of you have been following my posts and comments as I raised my baby horse, Casey. I thought I would take this opportunity to bring you up to date on his progress. At age 6 , Casey completed his first limited distance competition at the Lake Sonoma Endurance Ride in November of 2013. This ride was 30 miles long, which means he was allowed 7 hours and 10 minutes (30/100 * 24 hours) of elapsed time in which to complete. He finished in 4 hours and 24 minutes of ride time (elapsed time minus required holds, in this case, 1 hour), in 15th place out of 35 starters. During the 2014 competition year (AERC years run from Dec. 1 - Nov. 30th), he entered 6 limited distance rides, completing 5, as well as completing a 20 mile fun ride on Memorial Day weekend. He now has an official AERC record of 135 limited distance miles. What happened on the uncompleted ride? to read more...

DEVIN THOMPSON and "Angel"
Devin and her horse, Angel's Wish had a busy 2014 and are looking forward to 2015. She began taking dressage lessons with Jane Weatherwax, a FEI level judge in May. She competed at Sue Curry's Fairwinds Farm Dressage Show in July 19th and 20th 20 showing USDF Intro Tests A & B, and C and Training Level Test 1. She won her classes with scores in the 60's. Devin has owned Angel Since February, 2012. Angel is a beautiful grey Half-Arabian mare. Devin competed with her in a Class A Arabian competitions at Red Bluff and Watsonville with Patti Belanger. She wanted to try dressage because it is more economical to show and, there are many shows in the area and they are generally one day. Dressage is also more structured in that you are showing against a criteria and score on how well you are able to do the test exercises. After your competition you get the tests and can tell how ell you scored on the exercise and what you and your horse need to work on. AHA has a program that allows Arabian owners to show in open shows and get points towards Regional competitions. It is Devin's goal to compete with Angel at the Sport Horse Nationals in 2016. This next year is going to be very busy! All the best to Devin and Angel.

Obituaries
Bryan D. Thompson
June 12, 1958 - November 10, 2014
Husband of Dawn Thompson (formerly Dawn Shepherd) and father of Devin Thompson. Bryan had a long battle with a melanoma cancer. He was not a horseman but supported Dawn and Devin's love of horses. He was very proud of the successes of Devin and Angel and did his best to come to her shows.
Dawn and Devin would like to thank those members who donated to Change in Bryan's memory. The Change Program named one of their rescue horses for him in his memory.
Donald E. Harris Jr. March 17, 1934 - December 13, 2014
Many older members of GGAHA will remember former GGAHA member, Don Harris. He retired from a 24 year career in the Navy and he and his wife, Bev moved to Graton, where they began Harris Arabians. He owned up to nine broodmares, mostly ComarBay Beau and Azraff bloodlines crossed with *Barich de Washoe and some of the other Spanish stallions owned by BruMarBa.
Don joined Golden Gate Arabian Horse Assoc., in 1973 and was an active member of the club, Region III and IAHA (AHA). He sat on the GGAHA board from 1981-1989. During that time he was the Treasurer (1981-1983), and the President (1984-1987). He was a convention delegate for GGAHA 1982-1989 and sat on several Region III and IAHA Committees. He was Vice Chair of Region III from 1988-1989 and Director of Region III from 1989-1990. During this time he was also on the Board of Directors of Pacific Slope Arabian Horse Assoc., (1984-1989), as well as the Vice Chair. He was the Show Manager for two Pacific Slope Arabian Horse Association shows, hosted by GGAHA. He was also show manager for five Class A shows in the days when Region III was still at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds and the June GGAHA show could host from 550 to 650 horses, especially if the Pacific Slope Show was included. Don sat on the IAHA Judges and Stewards Selection Committee, the Membership Committee, and the National Champions and Regional Classes Committee. He was the Board Liaison for the Youth Activities Committee and the Gelding Promotion Committee. Don was also the chairman for the Grand Nationals (Cow Palace) Arabian Division Liaison Committee. Don Harris was a passionate believer in the Arabian horse and committed to creating venues for Arabian horse owners and exhibitors to enjoy their horses. He was committed to youth.
I was on the GGAHA board with Don and we went together to Region III meetings and conventions. He was a family man, devoted to his wife, Beverly and to his four children and his grandchildren. He was a great deal of support to me when I was the Youth Director of GGAHA. I bought my first stallion, a *Barich de Washoe son from him. He was a good man.
