Dear Camp Families -

Week three is wrapping up and it's been a fabulous summer so far!  Campers are enjoying all of the fun activities being offered and more importantly, are making great friends!  Only 3 weeks in and we've already been able to create a warm and nurturing Camp Kehillah (community). We hope your camper is loving it!

This week we welcomed our Kefli, Shoresh Geza and Elon families to visit Camp Hilltop, and all seemed pleased with what they saw!  Next week we complete visitations, with our Anaf/Bayit families on Wednesday.  Camp Shalom held its first late stay with Masada/Dimona campers, with our others to follow soon.  Camp Aaron held its first overnight, which was a blast, and is set for a great Camp show! Chaverim completed its last week of local travel and heads out to New England and Club Getaway on Monday.  Gesher CIT's are making great strides learning how to interact with campers and we know many will make great staff members some day.  Lot's going on!

We look forward to Carnival Day next Friday to wrap up our first session.  If you are interested in adding weeks to your camp summer, please email Pam Parker at pparker@jfedsnj.org.  Have a great weekend!

Shabbat Shalom!

Today we enjoyed a visit from Jewish Family & Children's Service (JFCS).  We collected lots of food for the  Betsy and Peter Fischer Food Pantry in our efforts to PUT A STOP TO HUNGER and observe the mitzvah of Ma'achil Re'evim (Feeding The Hungry).

A little heat and rain didn't stop our Hilltoppers from having a great week. Water games and Splash Park were a very popular way to beat the heat. On Monday, we welcomed Kefli and Shoresh families and on Wednesday, we welcomed Geza/Elon families for visitation. It was fun to watch our visitors participating in activities with our campers.
Our Theater group has been hard at work practicing for the Camp Hilltop show, "Give My Regards to Broadway" which will be on Wednesday, August 7th at the JCC in Cherry Hill.  At Music, the campers were belting out to the tunes of "I Don't Care If The Rain Comes Down."  Kosher Cooking was busy whipping up s'mores bars, what a sweet treat to eat while discussing the importance of helping each other in the community through mitzvahs and Tzedekah.  Our Little Scientists were hard at work performing an experiment which tried to determine how much water to mix with Alka-Seltzer to make it make a rocket fly in the air. Gan Yeladim continued discovering the "community" theme by creating beautiful sand art projects of all the different cities in Israel and discussed that no matter how near or far, they were all part of the same community. Dance was rocking out to "Twist and Shout!" Campers were making up their own dance moves and teaching them to their fellow campers.
Next Wednesday, July 17th, we are looking forward to visitation day for the Anaf and Bayit families and we can't wait until Carnival Day on Friday!
We are having a fantastic time and looking forward to many more great days!
Shabbat Shalom!

As week three comes to a close, enthusiasm and excitement continues to flourish.  Sparkling, smiling, faces were everywhere and the laughing and singing of joyous campers was heard proudly all throughout camp.  In Ceramics, campers created a community covenant and made an impression of their hands, with campers signing each person's impression.  In Arts and Crafts, our campers created people that can be found in our communities, using wooden shaped persons and a variety of different textiles and art supplies. The delicious smell in Camp Shalom this week was from Kosher Cooking where we made and decorated our own cupcakes.  In Digital Photography, campers used underwater cameras to take pictures of their friends.    Our Masada and Dimona divisions enjoyed camp all to themselves at their late stay and finished off the evening with an amazing magic/illusion show performed by Anthony Salazar -WOW!  Anthony returns to camp two more times to perform for our 3rd grade and 4th graders at their late stays.
Shabbat Shalom-have a great weekend!

Camp Aaron campers are buzzing with excitement as week 3 kept the action rolling rain or shine.  Gilad campers were beyond excited to have their first ever Camp Aaron overnight on Thursday.  Campers were treated to an extra free swim in the Shalom Pool followed by  a special overnight  dinner in the Aaron complex.  Our evening activity featured the Spinning Bees, a Frisbee trick show that got the campers involved with Frisbee relays and teaching Frisbee tricks.   Lots of bunk games were followed by "make your own sundae" bar.  A great night was had by all the campers and staff in attendance.

Everyone is invited to attend our first Camp Aaron theater performance on Wednesday, July 17th at 7 p.m.  Our Theater majors will be taking the stage with Once Upon a Mattress Jr. and our Performing dancers will be twirling the evening's performance in and dancing it out to the end.  Please come to the JCC in Cherry Hill that night and cheer on our young stars.
We can't wait to see what excitement week 4 brings!

Shabbat Shalom

The new "Skill of the Week" was "Participate and Show Enthusiasm." This skill highlighted the importance of actively participating with campers in every activity and gave specific tips on how to get involved.

Tuesday, a group of our CITs visited Lions Gate Retirement Community, for our first "Days of Caring and Sharing" trip of the summer.  The CITs participated in a balloon volleyball game with the residents and after helped distribute snacks.  A highlight of the visit was when one of the residents told her story of how she survived the Holocaust.  The day proved to be a fun and rewarding experience for everyone who participated.

Wednesday we visited Hurricane Harbor where we had a blast on Riptide Bay, Tornado, Typhoon and Wipeout. Chilling out on the Lazy River was also a highlight!! We finished out the week with a Shabbat leadership workshop led by our own CIT staff member, Tal.

We are looking forward to a fun-filled Week 4, with a "Days of Caring and Sharing" trip to the JFCS Food Pantry, a fun trip to Ocean City, and Carnival Day on Friday!

Don't forget to support next week's Friday Tzedakah collection - send your CIT to camp on July 19th with a new or gently used book for a child in kindergarten through second grade!

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions!

Shabbat Shalom - have a great weekend!
