FROM THE DIRECTORS

DELIVERING A GREAT FIRST FOUR WEEKS!

Not rain nor heat nor dark of night can prevent us from delivering a great first half of the summer, which culminated today with Carnival Day!  All week, we adapted many of our regular activities to BEAT the HEAT and drank lots and lots and lots of water!

This week we completed our Camp Hilltop parent visitations with a visit from our Anaf/Bayit families, we enjoyed a fabulous Camp Aaron performance of "Once Upon a Mattress," and Chaverim traveled north to New England for a "getaway" of fun!

Tuesday was Tisha B'Av, or the 9th of Av, a day which we  commemorated the destruction of the temples in Jerusalem, which occurred as the Israelites were divided and weak.  The JCC Camps at Medford has built a strong community in 4 short weeks, and will continue to build upon it in the coming 4 weeks.  You will be receiving mid-season questionnaires shortly - please let us know how we are doing!

For those who are completing their time at JCC Camps at Medford, we wish you a great rest of the summer and hope to see you soon!  For those wishing to extend their time, please email Pam Parker at [email protected] so we can make the adjustment.

Shabbat Shalom - Have a great weekend!

HOPPING IN HILLTOP

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Hilltop has had a fun-filled four weeks! With temperatures soaring, we incorporated water in every activity to stay cool. We also welcomed Anaf/Bayit families for visitation, introducing them to our new friends and showing off our skills and talent in different activities.

In Kosher Cooking, the campers built  houses using graham crackers, pretzels, cereal, icing and candy combined them to make a community; and said something nice about a friend's building. Our Little Scientists enjoyed exploring sound, making drums from empty containers and used them to discover the different sounds the drums made. Arts & Crafts made adorable Ladybug bowls while listening to the bookCucumber Soup-Bugs working together. At Usable Arts, campers created sand art necklaces and felt a sense of community while everyone wore hand made necklaces.  At Games, the campers played a game of "clean your room," throwing bean bags on to the opposing team's side to get rid of them. Dance was moving and shaking to such dances as the Chicken Dance, Hoola Dance, Macarena and some free style dance moves.  Tzedakah means charity, but the root word is Tzedek which means justice.  At Gan Yeladim, campers created and decorated their very own Tzedakah box and discussed the importance of sharing in the community.  At Music, Hilltoppers used rhythm sticks to perform a composition.  Hilltop Sports turned into a water park this week to keep our Hilltoppers cool.

Carnival Day was a blast, as our Hilltop sports field transformed in to an amusement park, featuring a Tubs of Fun ride, Shuttle Challenge obstacle course and a Pirate Ship Moon Bounce.  Our arcade included bean bag toss, fishing pond, knock the cans, fortune teller booth, tattoos, face painting, sack races and popcorn toss.  Hilltop campers rocked it out with Rock it Entertainment who DJ'd our dance party.
Next week we celebrate Israel week at camp and our Geza/Elon campers will enjoy an evening at Pump It Up. We are excited for another busy Hilltop week ahead! So many memories are being made...we can't wait to share the next four weeks with your children.

PROJECT REQUEST: Instead of discarding your empty paper towel/toilet paper rolls, please send them to camp. Hilltop Nature is collecting them for an upcoming project.

Shabbat Shalom!

GREETINGS FROM SHALOM

Always a Carnival in Camp Shalom!

We had a great Week 4 in Camp Shalom!  In Mad Science we experimented with Newton's Law with strings, tape and balloons.  Arts and Crafts painted wooden trays to make bird feeders.  Digital Photography is creating journal covers with photos of themselves and others working together in the camp community.  Our Theater performers are in full swing and our actors and actresses are working hard practicing for their big night!

The big highlight of the week was Carnival Day on Friday!

  • Our Jerusalem and Tel Aviv Pavilion was transformed into our very own "marvelous" midway of games.  The dance party and DJ, was provided by "EBE Entertainment," plus there was a moon bounce, rubber chicken toss, hula hoop contest, tattoos, face painting, and more.
  • The Shalom pool became quite a party with inflatable slides and "Rock It Entertainment" provided music and games.  Dancing could be seen everywhere, even in the water!  The slides were themed courses that stretched across the entire pool.
  • On the sports field, campers participated in special Carnival Day relays.

Carnival day was a fun-filled, amazing, spectacular day!

Next week we are looking forward to the Haifa/Eilat late stay on Wednesday to Israel Day on Friday. Things just keep heating up in Camp Shalom!

ACTION PACKED AARON
Camp Aaron Was Super HOT and Super COOL!

The thermostat might hover around 100 degrees, but Camp Aaron campers are super cool!

Our theater majors wowed their audience with a stellar performance of "Once Upon a Mattress, Jr."  We are so proud of our future Academy Award winners!   CLICK HERE TO SEE PICS

Carnival Day was awesome, filled with lots of games and water fun activities.  Camp Aaron pool enjoyed water relays and water games all day while the rest of Camp Aaron featured carnival booths, photo frames & karaoke with EBE Entertainment.  We were also treated to a magic and illusion show where our magician shared some of his "tricks of the trade" with each division.

Next week, our Shlichim will create a fun-filled Israel Day for Camp Aaron on Wednesday, July 24th.  Also, Arad division is still collecting permission slips for their overnight on Thursday, July 25th.

As we sadly say goodbye to our 1st session campers, we eagerly look forward to welcoming the new Aaron campers that will be starting with us on Monday.

Have a great Camp Aaron weekend!  Stay cool!

Shabbat Shalom

GESHER IS GOING GREAT!

Week 4 was a blast for the Gesher CITs! We started out the week with a new "Skill of the Week" - Balancing Attention, which highlights the importance of dividing attention between all the campers each day, as well as welcoming any new campers to the group.

On Tuesday a group of 14 CITs visited the JFCS Betsy and Peter Fischer Food Pantry to stock the shelves with the food collected during last Friday's camp-wide food drive.  This was a fantastic trip, and the group even got to meet with Senator James Beach, who came to commend them for volunteering.

On Wednesday we visited Ocean City where we enjoyed a beautiful sunny day on the beach, the boardwalk and the rides. We finished the day with a pizza dinner at the Margate JCC before returning home.

On Friday we splashed and played with the campers at CARNIVAL DAY!!!

We are looking forward to an exciting Week 5!   Now that we are at the half-way point of the summer, CITs will be changing up their assignments starting on Monday.  Be sure to welcome your new CIT on Monday morning!  Tuesday brings a trip to Combat Sports and Thursday many CITs will be participating in a CPR Certification class.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions!

Shabbat Shalom - have a great weekend!
