Na'eem Me'od
Welcome to JCC Camps at Medford!

Na'eem Me'od נעים מאד    is Hebrew for "Nice to Meet You," and we have had such a blast getting to meet our 2014 JCC Camps at Medford campers!  From the moment our first campers got off the bus on Monday morning, we were greeted with smiles and cheers for an exciting first week at camp.

Our theme this summer is diversity, and we are fortunate to work with a beautifully diverse group of staff and campers.  Jewish tradition embraces diversity and even has a blessing, or bracha, about it:
"Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu melech ha'olam, m'shaneh habriyot." "Blessed are You, Adonai our God, ruler of the universe, who makes creatures different."

The JCC Camps at Medford, embraces diversity in all forms, and we are honored to welcome our staff and campers to a loving, inclusive camp home each day. We are so proud of our nationally recognized Open Hearts/Open Doors program that allows campers with physical and developmental challenges to participate in our camp program.

We strive to continue to be the best camp, and welcome your feedback. Click here to download the contact list.

JCC Camps at Medford is making a splash this summer on social media. Follow us on:  Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

GREETINGS FROM SARA SIDEMAN

For me, being back at camp is like coming home, as I grew up in the South Jersey Community and have both attended and worked as staff at our awesome camp.  I am so honored to work for such a special camp with a truly outstanding staff.

Please know that my office doors at camp and at the Katz JCC are always open. Please stop in to visit and introduce yourself.  I look forward to getting to know everyone more throughout the summer!

 LENNY KRAYZELBURG SWIM ACADEMY (LKSA)
Instructional swim has begun!  For the next 7 weeks, you will receive a "swim messenger."  This will outline skills taught and progress of your camper.

We teach the "Swim Right" method created by 4-time Olympic Gold Medalist Lenny Krayzelburg and since we began 2 summers ago, we have seen a vast improvement of the campers swim skills.

The method, which progresses through seven levels, teaches water safety first and then proper technique, with an initial emphasis on swimmers being water safe. The key is learning to back float for an infinite amount of time.

We are super excited to provide your camper with the opportunity to provide them with the lifelong skill of being safe in and around the water.

If you want to supplement your child's camp swim  lessons, you can contact the LKSA at the Katz JCC to arrange for evening or weekend group or private lessons at  lksainfo@jfedsnj.org.

As Dory in Finding Nemo always says - "JUST KEEP SWIMMING, JUST KEEP SWIMMING..."

HILLTOP HAPPENINGS
CLICK HERE TO SEE HILLTOP PHOTOS
Camp Hilltop is already off to a fantastic start!  We love seeing our smiling campers each day as they try out these fun activities:
  • Kosher Cooking whipped up some fun with a yummy, messy treat: graham crackers decorated with frosting.   Campers "wrote" their names using raisins, as a way for bunkmates to get to know each other. They also enjoyed a story from the PJ Library collection called The Schmutzy Family -- all about getting a little messy and having fun -- if that doesn't capture the essence of camp, then we don't know what does!
  • Our Little Scientists explored the property of fluid viscosity as they created "cloud dough" using flour and baby oil.
  • Music got off to a groovy start, singing welcome songs and practicing rhythm with tambourines.
  • Dance focused on creative movement and Gymnastics challenged the kids with an obstacle course.
  • Our Art classes are completing creative projects, and reading stories related to this summer's theme of Myths, Fables and Legends. "How Butterflies Began" was read as the campers constructed paper butterflies, and a Chinese fable, about the importance of being yourself, was read as the campers constructed their own personalized mirrors.
  • Hilltop Sports field was in full swing teaching new skills and drills. We are excited to announce a new club activity for Anaf and Bayit campers: Lacrosse!
Looking forward to a great Week 2!!!

MAKING MEMORIES WITH CAMP SHALOM!
CLICK HERE TO SEE CAMP SHALOM PHOTOS
We had a great first week at Camp Shalom!  Campers were excited to see old friends and meet new ones, as well.  Our campers got to participate in a ton of fun activities throughout the week.
  • In Mad Science, we made our own puffy paint and then created beautiful pictures with that paint!
  • At Digi Photo, campers took photos with their bunks and created photo keychains, perfect for hanging on camp backpacks!
  • At Ceramics, we got to know each others' names by molding our names out of clay!
  • At Games, campers created "time capsules" to be rediscovered at the end of the summer!!
  • At Mini-Golf, we learned the secret to getting a hole-in-one!
  • And at Arts & Crafts, campers created their own brightly-colored Native American Dream Catchers--a great way to help kids filter out any bad dreams!!
  • Alex Weinberg from Temple Beth Sholom, helped us welcome Shabbat for our first week!

We look forward to another great week next week!!  Shabbat Shalom!

CAMP AARON IS READY AND RARING TO GO!
CLICK HERE TO VIEW CAMP AARON PHOTOS.
Camp Aaron started off the 2014 camp season with a bang!

We began the summer with staff introductions and welcomes in our beautiful ampitheater.  The energy was electric as campers cheered for the counselors and favorite activities.  Our senior staff gave tours all week to campers who are new to our part of the camp complex as the rest of the campers excitedly rushed to their chosen activities.  The Camp Aaron arts pavilion and sports fields are already in full swing with Summer 2014 memories being made.  Lunch is always an exciting time as campers get to know their bunkmates and settle into another JCC summer of fun.  We are looking forward to what new experiences and surprises await us in the upcoming weeks.  It's going to be a great Camp Aaron summer!

Shabbat Shalom - have a great weekend!

CHAVERIM IS ON THE MOVE!
Chaverim started off the summer with a fantastic day of bowling and team building.  Then, without missing a beat, we had an awesome day of go-karts and amusement rides at the Funplex.

Continuing with our Week 1 fun, we converged on Independence Hall for a selfie-filled scavenger hunt.   On Thursday, we ventured to Clementon Park for some rides and water slides. Our week finished up with some group bonding at the roller skating rink.   We also started our summer-long Maccabi-style fun.  Looking forward to another week of fun travels!

Shabbat Shalom

  GESHER CIT'S GET GOING!
Our CITs have jumped right into the fun with their bunks and specialties and are feeling right at home.  What a great week!

Each week our CITs will focus on a new skill, and this week we focused on the importance of making a great first impression. On Sunday, we talked about how to make great first impressions on our campers, and on Tuesday, we had a program about not making quick first impressions about others before getting to know them.

On Wednesday, we had an awesome trip to Clementon Park and Splash World, where the CITs enjoyed riding the roller coasters, floating in the lazy river and hanging out at the wave pool.

We ended the week with Ropes to work on team building games as a division and learned about ourselves, and Rabbi Nathan helped us bring in Shabbat with a special Shabbat reflections program.

New week we will travel to Ocean City, and the CITs will be learning from Jewish Children's and Family Services about Behavior Management for their bunks.  We can't wait!

Shabbat Shalom - have a great weekend!
