- On Wednesday, the co-chairs of the state's budget-writing Joint Finance Committee, State Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) and State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), issued the following statement regarding providing more resources to combat gun violence in Milwaukee:
"The City of Milwaukee is currently at a decade-level high for homicides. Today's vote combats this devastating problem by providing additional resources to help the Milwaukee District Attorney's Office prosecute gun crimes. The funding is part of a joint effort by the Legislature, Department of Justice, and Milwaukee County to fight gun violence in the area.
Milwaukee County will have two new assistant district attorneys to focus on prosecuting gun-related crimes. This measure will help ensure Milwaukee County is a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.
It's our hope that the steps we've taken today will help guarantee that people who commit gun crimes will finally face real consequences in Milwaukee."
