JSRC Away Team News
Niagara Falls international Marathon
Sunday October 30 - Niagara, Canada

A stunning crew of JSRC women took on the The Niagara Falls International Marathon this year. The marathon course is is AIMS, IAAF and Boston certified. Voted one of the most scenic marathons in Canada and the #1 such event in Ontario with a marathon that starts in one country (USA) and finishes in another (Canada), the Niagara Falls International Marathon continues to grow with participants in recent years exceeding 6,000. Unlike earlier years, the majority or 61.46% of runners in all events are now female compared to 38.54% male runners. Athletes from more than 36 countries around the world run in all events.
Needless to say, JSRC had a few award winners:
Jessie Joseph - 3rd place AG Marathon
Claire Villanova - 1st place - AG 10K
Sherry Walsh - 2nd place - AG 10K
Barbara Keenan -  2nd place - AG 5K
All the rest are happy to have finished! What a great trip!

JSRC Hashathon
JSRC 36th Annual Hashathon Trail Race
Sunday, November 13- Cheesquake Park
The Fall 6 mile trail classic (37th annual) will be held this year on Sunday, November 13th. The race is challenging, but nearly everyone will finish intact. This is definitely not "golf course" caliber Cross County. The Hashathon course is hilly, rugged, covers plenty of uneven stairs, roots, logs and so much more.
Once you finish you can treat yourself to either: a home-made fluffer-nutter sandwich or delicious pizza. Both of these delicacies will be well deserved after you complete this difficult and challenging course.
Once again Goldenseal will be playing at our post-race party, which will be held on location at the lakeside pavilion at Cheesequake State Park
Race Entry goes from $13 to $15 after November 6.
Pre-ordered Black Tech Long Sleeve T-Shirts costs $22 up until November 6 when we stop selling them online. If you want to guarantee a Tech shirt you have until November 6 to order one. Otherwise, it is first come, first served, on all available shirts and gloves.
For those early birds who have already ordered your Hashathon shirt, please double -check on runsignup.com to confirm your size. We have reason to believe that some shirts were ordered while under-the-influence.
We have a new style of Hashathon awards this year that will be a must- have item for all nature lovers, tree-huggers, and those who collect such wonderful items. You have run with the rest - now r@ce with the best!! On-On!
.
Please note that northbound GSP exit 120 will not allow you to access the park...the bridge is under construction. If you are traveling from the south, go to the Cheesequake rest stop and return Southbound on the local lane, exit at 120.
See you there!

16th Annual JSRC Navesink Challenge
15K & 5K Races

NOVEMBER 27, 2016
The 16th annual Navesink Challenge 15K and 5K races will take place at Bodman Park in Middletown, New Jersey. Proceeds from the event will benefit Middletown Youth Athletic Association (MYAA), Monmouth Conservation Foundation (MCF), local first responders, and other local non-profit organizations. Over the years, the race has attracted a steadily increasing number of runners, from 600 a decade ago to nearly double that in 2015. In the last three years alone, the race has attracted runners from 17 states and Canada. Since 2010, the Navesink Challenge has raised more than $60,000 for its beneficiaries.
The Navesink Challenge is celebrated for its location along one of the prettiest courses in Monmouth County, through the woods and back roads of Navesink. It includes two races: A challenging 15K run beginning at 10:00 a.m., and a 5K run/walk at 10:10 a.m. Both distances feature scenic country roads and several hilly sections through some of the beautiful properties in Huber Woods and along Cooper and Browns Dock Roads, areas which have been preserved by MCF for the public to enjoy.
Overall Awards will be presented to the fastest three (3) men and fastest three women in the 15K and the 5K. In addition, the top three male and female finishers in each 10-year age group will also receive awards. All finishers will be eligible for random prizes donated by local and national organizations, including The Count Basie Theatre, Eyes On First, Paramount Pictures, Brooks Sneakers, Classic Boat Rides and Monmouth Beach Yoga and Wellness, with a grand prize drawing for a bicycle donated by The Red Bicycle, with locations in Red Bank and Fair Haven.
Post race food and beverages will be provided to all participants, including the race runners' favorite - hot, homemade chicken soup by Brandl chef, Bob Gileski. The Red Bank Elks are once again hosting the popular post-race party at their West Front Street lodge immediately after the awards ceremony at Bodman Park. Runners are treated to a buffet prepared by Chef Charles at Verdi Catering & Private Dining and entertainment by local favorites The Danjos.
Runners wishing to participate are encouraged to register early. The race has completely sold out weeks before race day for the last two years, with more than 1100 registered runners and Charity Entry runners in 2015-a record! Registration is currently available online or by mail. Registration costs are $38 online  and $40 for anyone mailing a paper application.
By popular demand, in 2014 and 2015 a limited of Charity Entries were made available, and last year the race had a record number of charity runners. One hundred percent of Charity Entry fees go directly to MYAA or MCF.
As always, pre-registered runners are guaranteed a long-sleeved technical shirt, which holds more appeal for runners than the cotton shirts they receive at many races," said Race Director Leslie McKernan. "Every year, we offer the shirts in a new color, so runners who want one are advised to register right away."
Participants may pick up their shirts and race bibs at race sponsor and local running store Road Runner Sports on Saturday, November 26 (the day before race day) from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Road Runner is located at 490 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, NJ. In addition to packet pickup for pre-registered runners, Road Runner will also be offering a discount of 25% for VIPS (includes the standard 10% VIP discount) or 10% discount for anyone who is not a VIP. Shirts and race bibs will also be available for pickup at Bodman Park on race day, starting at 8:30 a.m.

A Team Challenge is open to any gym or fitness center. Team Awards will be handed out for: Fastest Gym/Fitness Center 15k Team (top 5 fastest team runners), Fastest Gym/Fitness Center 5k Team (top 5 fastest team runners), and Largest Registered Gym/Fitness Center Team. Learn more about the Team Challenge and register for the Team Challenge here.
Sponsors for 2016 include bib sponsors AmeriHealth NJ; premier sponsors RoadRunner Sports, Shrewsbury; major sponsors The Hill Family; Howley Financial Group, Rumson; and, minor sponsors including Eastpointe Health & Fitness, Atlantic Highlands; Brinley Gold Shipwreck Rum, Atlantic Highlands; and Mountain Hill School, Atlantic Highlands.
