MATTHEWS
MONTHLY MESSENGER
June 2017 - In This Issue:
Pentecost Sunday
Just the mention of Pentecost is enough to evoke memories of days of old when the fire fell and the glory of God came down.

Luke 24:47 Jesus said that repentance and the remission of sin was to be preached in His name unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Jesus instructed His disciples...

"But wait-wait until you are qualified."

"Wait until you are equipped."

"Wait until you are ready."

"Tarry in Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high."

That word, "endue," mean to be clothed with; to be enveloped by the power of the Holy Ghost.

We have been given power or ability to accomplish the work of ministry. This power comes from on high; power that comes from God.

The apostle Paul put it like this, "For our gospel came not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Ghost and in much assurance" (1 Thessalonians 1:5).

The Holy Ghost is the agent, and we are the instruments; the Holy Ghost is the chief administrator, and we are the representatives.

This is transforming power!

It will transform Sunday morning saints into prayer meeting saints.
It will stop the Exodus of our young people from our churches.
It will bring the church to life and keep it from turning into a mortuary.

In 1985, the Daytona 500 auto  race had just begun. On the beginning of the 3rd lap, the $ 250,000  car, that was being driven by  Donny Allison, rolled to a stop on
the edge of the infield.

The pit crew  soon discovered that no one had  filled the car with gas.  How embarrassing that one of the  top drivers in auto racing stalled  because he ran out of gas.

How many believers and how many churches do you suppose have stalled because they have run out of spiritual gas?

Without the power of the Holy Ghost in our lives we will find ourselves embarrassed and struggling!

Jesus told His disciples:

Acts 1:8 "But ye shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost is come upon you"

What a promise!

Let us pray that on this Pentecost Sunday that God will do it again!

Father's Day

We are looking forward to "Father's Day 2017" on June 18. It would be a great day for our men to show their faith in God and their love for their family.

We are asking all fathers to wear their ugliest tie; you might just win a prize!

"When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant, I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years."

- Mark Twain

"I gave my father $100 and said, "Buy yourself something that will make your life easier." So he went out and bought a present for my mother."
