JVS NEWS:  December 2017
Hearing the Voices of Refugees & Immigrants

This past month, JVS partnered with Walk a Mile for "Reclaiming Home: Stories of Refugees & Immigrants." At the event, we heard from three refugees, including a JVS Career Coach who is a refugee from Iraq, as they shared their stories of resiliency. The event took place at the Regent Theater in Arlington, and was moderated by Jenna Russell from the Boston Globe's Spotlight Team. After the event, attendees had the opportunity to learn about how to get involved with JVS and other organizations that empower refugees and immigrants. If you are interesting in learning more about how you can get involved, check out our website to learn about how you can  volunteer with us and support JVS.
Biotechnology Students Learn from Industry Panel

Students in our Bridges to College Biotechnology program had the opportunity to learn from professionals in their field this past month. Volunteers from Life Science Cares spoke to our students about their experiences working in biotechnology and gave our students advice as they prepare for careers in this industry. The panelists came from Genocea Biosciences, Brammer Bio, and Propel Careers. The students will soon begin studying for a degree in Biotechnology at Quincy College.
Refugee Clients Receive Turkeys for Thanksgiving

Just before Thanksgiving, Forsyth Dental Hygiene Clinic sent a donation of two turkeys and other holiday food for our refugee clients. We raffled off the two turkeys, and the winners were so excited to receive such a thoughtful gift for their first Thanksgiving in the United States. The clinic  also offers free dental exams and services for our refugee clients. We have been working with Forsyth Dental Hygiene Clinic for over a decade, and we are grateful for our longstanding partnership with them.
You Can Support Opportunity

As the year comes to a close, and we celebrate family, community, and faith in the holiday season, we hope you will consider supporting JVS. Together, we can continue providing opportunity for nearly 17,000 people every year, including immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, and older workers. Contributions from individuals are a crucial part of ensuring that that our hard-working students have access to the assistance they need to improve their lives. We are so grateful to our donors who make our work possible.
