JVS CNA Training Graduates Take Next Step

Across the country, healthcare providers are facing shortages of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). We collaborate with providers in the Boston area through our Healthcare Initiative on pressing problems like this shortage. Recently, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) approached our team to assist with their pilot program to train-up CNAs for the hospital setting.

This program hires individuals with direct care experience, such as CNAs and Medical Assistants, and then trains them for Patient Care Technician (PCT) roles, a critical role for hospital operations. For participants, this program was an opportunity to get a foot in the door with the hospital and earn a higher hourly wage. To ensure program success, BIDMC needed to find reliable candidates and sought out JVS for referrals. Our teams identified 8 clients for this program, of which 7 were graduates of JVS's CNA training program.

In total, BIDMC's pilot PCT program hired and trained 16 people and we are proud to have referred 50% of the training cohort. The success of this collaboration has met a need for the employer, as well as enhanced the job quality of our clients. Congratulations to BIDMC's newest employees!

Skills Training Graduates Prepared for Growing Industries

We know that employers are looking for candidates to have occupation-specific skills needed to be successful at work. We offer a range of training programs designed in partnership with employers to provide participants with classroom training, internships and certificate preparation when applicable.

In the past month, we celebrated four graduations from skills training programs and the dedicated participants who  are now prepared for good jobs in industries like hospitality, retail and healthcare.
  • The Vocational Training Program celebrated 12 graduates who completed classroom instruction and job shadowing with employer partners Courtyard Marriott - Copley, Homewood Suites - Arlington, Hostelling International and the Westin Waterfront Hotel.
  • Transitions to Work marked its 25th cycle last month, when 7 participants graduated from training with Whole Foods Market - Medford. These graduates gained skills in customer service, interview preparation and self advocacy.

Connecting Job Seekers to the Hospitality Sector

One way JVS CareerSolution is meeting the needs of employers and job seekers is by fostering deep relationships with, and offering specialized programming in, particular sectors. Building on the success of the Healthcare Initiative, we have recently launched Hospitality industry programming. In mid-July, we hosted our first Hospitality Job Fair with six local hotel employers. Over 90 job seekers attended, with some landing interviews on site.
