The Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome powered by Lincoln Tech is extremely proud to announce that Jack Dossey Jr will be inducted into its Hall of Fame on Saturday night May 26th. Racing that night is headlined by the “Big Ed” Bishop Memorial 75-Lap Figure 8 for the Brown’s Oil Service Late Models. The pairing of the induction ceremony and this race is a perfect match. Ed, who is also in the Speedrome Hall of Fame, owned cars driven by Dossey to numerous victories and titles. Racing will begin at 7pm May 26th with the Hall of Fame ceremony around 8:30pm.
With this the 40th season of the Late Models underway, what better driver to be the Hall of Fame inductee than its greatest champion? Jack Dossey Jr owns a record 7 crowns in the exciting and unique class the competed both on the oval and figure 8 courses nightly. He captured his first division feature win on June 24, 1983 and his most recent on September 5, 2010, between were many periods of domination. His 117 regular season main event wins (4th all-time) include a record 6 triumphs each in the 1-Hour Figure 8 and Pepsi 100 plus triumphs in every major contest.
The Greatest Figure 8 Race on the Planet is the World Figure 8 Championship 3-Hour Endurance Race and Dossey has conquered it a record 6 times. He owns event records for career laps led (2,051), pole positions (9), podium finishes (9), and is tied for top five finishes (11) with his heated rival Duane Lee. His stats in this grueling race are staggering. Jack helped pioneer the now traditional style of attacking this race from the first green flag to the final lap. He treated the endurance race like an all-out sprint.
Jack’s incredible resume has so much more. It started with wins in the Stock division following in the footsteps of his father. He stepped into open-wheel competition in 1986 taking too rookie honors, the CORA Midget championship, and even won a 100-lap USAC Midget feature broadcast live on ESPN television besting Mack McClellan and Rich Vogler. He also captured races in the USAC Modifieds and INEX Legends. His figure 8 success also came on the road. Jack won at the most different tracks (8) in the six year history of the Figure 8 Challenge Series. And these are just some of his accomplishments.
His support of racers across numerous divisions via his business Hart’s Auto Center was vast with parts and sponsorship. He also helped in the founding of the Speedrome Junior Faskart division, leading to many new driving stars including his son. Jack’s sportsmanship was honored on multiple occasions at the Speedrome banquet and his fun-loving personality was on display every time he was on the Kitley Avenue property.
