Exciting Updates on the Outdoor Learning Space |
|
|
Global Motion Play Area of the Outdoor Learning Space |
|
Dear Salisbury Academy Families:
It is with great excitement that Salisbury Academy shared an in-depth update on the progress of our Outdoor Learning Space this week.
Up until this point the project has been in a silent phase of fundraising. This week Salisbury Academy announced that we are actively fundraising and seeking community support so that we can get shovels in the ground this spring. Can you imagine the joy on the children's faces when they return to school this fall to a dynamic and energizing landscape of outdoor engagement? We are close to making those smiles and gasps of awe a reality!
To date Salisbury has raised $338,000, just under $100,000 away from the amount required for us to break ground this spring on phase one of our Outdoor Learning Space.
Learn more about Salisbury Academy's Outdoor Learning Space and opportunities to get involved through this week's Jaguar Journal, Spring 2017. Contact development coordinator Tracey Baird for more information on naming opportunities and the project as a whole.
Thank you, families, for your support!
Sincerely,
Beverly Fowler, Head of School

A Trip to Dr. Rob's Museum
|
The third grade class recently visited Dr. Rob's Museum of Commercial and Roadside Americana! Situated at Dr. Rob's property in Cool Spring, the museum enabled students to see a multitude of artifacts of American pop culture, marketing, industry, and history.
In the first phase located in the bottom floor of Dr. Rob's residence, students witnessed many commercial artifacts, including pedal cars, giant M & M characters, furniture repurposed from Coca-Cola coolers, signs of all shapes and sizes, and even a Coca-Cola dining booth in the snack bar area. Highlights of the lower level included the "Wall of Glass," a long wall completely covered by 1,200 soda bottles of different brands, and a small theater with authentic movie theater seating. In this lower level, students were able to learn about marketing psychology and the use of slogans, jingles, symbols/icons, logos, personification, and other tools that influence consumers.
|
The second phase of the experience found students visiting Dr. Rob's garage and seeing various items of highway memorabilia, from road signs and a 9-ft. tall Coca-Cola sign to a Ronald McDonald statue and a giant neon "M" sign of McDonald's. In the tour's third phase, students went over to Dr. Rob's Music Studio and Office adjacent to his house where they were able to see the "Milk and Cookies" collection, comprising an assortment of amazing cookie jars and milk bottles from local dairies. The final phase of the trip involved stopping at an old cotton gin situated on the property which baled the last bale of cotton produced in Iredell County before closing in the seventies.
It was hard to tell who had more fun, the students or Dr. Rob! At any rate, Dr. Rob loves sharing. Any interested parents or groups are welcome to contact Dr. Rob to schedule a visit.
