Thank you Booster Club

Dear Salisbury Academy Families:

Thanks to the Salisbury Academy Booster Club, our Jaguar Gym now features a new AED machine with voice prompts to walk users through the simple steps necessary in life-saving defibrillation and CPR.

This new purchase supports the recent First Aid and CPR certification completed by our faculty and staff in January.  The Booster Club serves to increase school spirit and support Salisbury Academy sports. The objective of the Booster Club is to organize volunteers who support the various teams and to raise money for the needs of our sports programs beyond what is budgeted by the school.  Booster Club membership is open to all parents of student athletes and people who are interested in supporting the athletic programs.

You can help by joining and signing up each year for the various projects that support our teams. Giving your time to the Salisbury Academy Booster Club supports a great and growing sports program. We are extremely proud of the athletic program at Salisbury Academy, and our goal is to make it the best. Please join me in expressing our appreciation to our Booster Club officers Pete Barr, Kevin Peltz, Tammy Lilly, and Tami Nianouris, and to Coach Wilson for providing this generous gift to our school.

Sincerely,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Salisbury Academy's fourth grade traveled back in time and became a host of fascinating historical figures in their recent Time Machine Museum. Figures represented were diverse in the time periods in which they lived and in their contributions to society, and included individuals ranging from Martin Luther King, Jr. to Sacagawea to Neil Armstrong.

For the project, students each read a biography on a deceased historical figure and created a first-person oral presentation to share with visitors and fellow classmates. When asked why they identified with their particular chosen figures, students were thoughtful in their answers:

Emma Clifton as Sue Sally Hale, polo pioneer:
"She loved animals and art just like me. She fought for the right to be who she wanted to be and to do what she loved."

Keaton Weatherly as Albert Einstein, theoretical physicist:
"He won the Nobel Prize for physics and he was a very good scientist. He never had any excuses for anything and was very honest."

Abby Barr as Amelia Earhart, aviation pioneer and author:
"I like her because she was different from the other girls and very independent."

Peyton Hollar as Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing:
"My connection is that she loves animals and she wants to help people."

Gray Davis as Vincent Van Gogh, Dutch Post-Impressionist painter:
"He's always inspired me to paint and draw."

Hank Webb as Daniel Boone, American pioneer and explorer:
"I love hunting and the outdoors just like Daniel Boone."

Eve Rich as Anne Frank, German-born diarist:
"I liked how Anne Frank really helped me understand WWII and that time."

Bluebird Trail Created at SA

Mrs. Shadroui's eighth-graders created a Bluebird Trail for Salisbury Academy! Students dug holes and sunk posts for 5 bluebird houses that were distributed in different, north-facing places around campus. Bluebirds typically nest in late March, and several birds have already been spotted coming and going from the bird houses.

Once the houses become bird habitats, students will utilize them for research and data. If successful, the houses will attract bluebirds and other bird species to SA grounds!
