Join us for Kidsbloom on Friday, May 11
Dear Parents of Salisbury Academy:

Join us on Friday, May 11 for a night of family fun at Kidsbloom! With exciting activities including inflatables and the Toxic Meltdown, food, face painting, and a silent auction, the night is sure to be a good time for all.

This year's silent auction will feature Jaguar Pride items, both old favorites and new items, including the painting of the spirit rock and Head of School/PE Coach for the Day. Other silent auction items provide fun and fabulous experiences including Disney World, Panther tickets, and skiing the Mountains of NC!

To top it off, each grade at Salisbury Academy has created a beautiful art piece for this year's Kidsbloom silent auction.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

SA Students Celebrate Earth Day
Second grade students share their ideas on how to make the world a better place.
Celebrating Earth Day in the Lower School

During the month of April, lower school science lab classes have participated in various Problem Based Learning (PBL) projects to prepare for Earth Day. First grade students explored endangered habitats and problem solved ways to help these habitats flourish. Using Chatterpix, students used an animal from their habitat to share a way to help preserve that environment. Second grade students invented a device to lead toward their ultimate goal of making the world a better place. Students used an Instagram template to share ideas with their classmates. Third grade students created a mobile museum to discover NC ecosystems in its three regions. Students answered the question, "How can we create a museum that educates children and adults of all ages about our state ecosystems and wildlife?" Third-graders also took to the great outdoors for an overnight adventure at Camp Thunderbird. Fourth grade students dived into research about another country's recycling program and produced a Google slideshow about their findings. They had to explore what countries are "thinking outside the trash."
What better way to spend Earth Day week than in the great outdoors? Third grade students enjoyed adventures in nature at their overnight trip to Camp Thunderbird!
Middle school students planted flowering plants to represent the difference in the environment that every student can make.
Earth Day in the Middle School

In celebration of Earth Day, middle school students planted various species of flowering plants and flower seeds to help increase the declining pollinator population. In science classes, students discussed environmental issues such as habitat loss, over-harvesting, air pollution, ocean pollution, pollinator populations, and invasive species. Students were encouraged that they CAN make a difference with their own two hands. Each class planted a flowering plant and every student planted seeds as a symbol of every individual's ability to make a positive impact on our environment.

Whole-School Earth Day Project

Students in JK through eighth grade are participating in a collaborative bulletin board where each student writes one conservation-themed commitment statement on their hand print.

It has been a fun week of raising student awareness about small changes each of us can make and the positive impact every individual can make!
