A Growth-Focused Culture
Mrs. Melanie Deal, SA School Counselor, will present at the Dec. 7 Lunch and Learn
Dear Salisbury Academy
Families,

A recent study released by Independent School Magazine shares that a healthy, growth-focused culture in schools has a direct positive impact on student satisfaction, enthusiasm, and sense of community.

At Salisbury Academy, this growth-focused culture is promoted in many ways. Students enjoy an environment that celebrates individual student growth and provides specific, thoughtful feedback and additional help from teachers. Fueling their curiosity and love of learning, students are provided with opportunities to explore new interests through a robust curriculum and co-curricular offerings.

A healthy faculty culture is supported by our annual goal-setting process, weekly staff development sessions on Friday that share current pedagogical and research-based topics for faculty, continuous observation feedback, and our teacher mentor program for all new faculty.

As the final key component to this success, the growth-focused culture would not be complete without an active community of parents. This year, we have committed to providing more parent education to encourage parents as partners by offering a monthly Lunch and Learn topic. Topics shared this school year have included maximizing learning opportunities and addressing student allergies, and we look forward to the session with our new school counselor, Melanie Deal, this week.

On January 24, we will welcome Dr. Michelle Mannering who will share on the topic of executive functioning skills. February 8 will be an evening, community-wide event with Screenwise national author, Devorah Heitner, who will share on the topic of how to thoughtfully guide children in the digital age.

We would love your feedback on any future topics or speakers you would like to see us offer in the future.

Sincerely,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

In an exercise in their morning meeting classroom time, Salisbury Academy students, faculty, and staff were asked to share in just a few words what SA means to them. Below are their answers, straight from the hearts and mouths of SA students, faculty, and staff.

Middle School Matters

" My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?"
