A Great Winter Sports Season for the Jags
Dear Salisbury Academy Parents,

What a successful winter sports season our Jaguars wrapped up this weekend! I wanted to take a moment and say thank you to Coach Wilson for his outstanding leadership with the Booster Club and the season.

Thank you to our JV Coaches Lauren Miller, Hannah Lewis, and Willie Gillespie for their dedication to developing our players. Both teams grew tremendously over the course of the season and ended the conference tournament with a successful second place finish for our JV girls and a conference championship for our JV boys.

Our varsity team competed this weekend with both teams taking second place in hard-fought championships. All-Conference varsity players are: Charlie Barr, Will Fowler, and Jude Lockhart for the boys, and Madelynn Castor, Maggie Dees, and Ronni Lilly for the girls. We want to thank Coaches Teresa Knox and Antwaun Thompson for their dedication to this game and these student athletes. The players were well-coached and ready for each team they faced this season, and were taught sportsmanship and a deep respect for positive role models. Our teams represented their school and family so well through both wins and losses.

The pep squad and cheerleading teams provided wonderful energy and support while leading the crowd in uplifting chants and cheers this season. Thank you to the girls and to coaches Karlee Eagle and Megan Bost for your enthusiasm.

This list would be incomplete without a big thank you to our amazing Booster Club and volunteers. Thank you for working admissions, concessions, cleaning after a game, providing transportation, and cheering on our students this season!

It was a great season to be a Jaguar!

Sincerely,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Let's Explore!: Middle school exploratories open new realms of discovery
Art teacher Ms. Chaffee teaches cartooning to her exploratory students.
Middle school exploratories provide students with a weekly opportunity to delve into a new, elective topic of their choice! This quarter's exploratories offered  are: piano lab, cartooning, Battle of the Books, Envirothon, yearbo ok, Crafting for a Cause, and Celebrating our Heroes.

Crafting for a Cause Spotlight

Originally created by teacher Margaret Hattaway as a knitting exploratory, Crafting for a Cause came about as way to spread joy and comfort through crafts. "I thought, if we're going to knit, let's do it for someone else. There are so many needs out there," said Hattaway.

Crafting for a cause students are knitting scarves and hats for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and have made many cards for members of the military and hospitalized children.

"Our goal is to let others know that somebody is out there thinking of them, whether they are going through a hard time in the hospital or are deployed overseas," said Hattaway.

And just as the exploratory evolved from just plain knitting into Crafting for Cause, the scope of causes supported and crafts being created has grown as well. Exploratory students plan to make paracord bracelets for soldiers and have many causes that they aim to make contributions to. Additionally, students who are not in the Crafting for a Cause exploratory are jumping on board and knitting in their spare time to support the causes. -The giving spirit is contageous!

"The students are so excited," said Hattaway. "They're checking out the knitting supplies and taking them home, knitting at recess and working away at it during spare moments when they don't have class work. It's really incredible to witness."

The Green Space

Did you know:

The Earth has been around for 4.6 billion years, but in the past 100 years, people have caused a great deal of damage. We have destroyed 80% of the Earth's forest and 40% of the Earth's tropical rainforests.
