Bloom Industrial - What a night!
Dear Salisbury Academy Families:

The 2017 Bloom Gala was a huge success! This exciting evening brought together families, faculty, staff, and community members for an elegant evening featuring live jazz on the platform, delicious food, decadent cocktails, live auction, and dancing. Thanks to the incredible generosity of so many, including Bloom hosts, attendees, and auction supporters, our 8th Annual Gala raised funds to support the scholarship and operating budget for Salisbury Academy and our local community partnerships.

We are so pleased to announce that our Fund-A-Need raised over $40,000 towards the cost of breaking ground on Phase 1 of our outdoor plan this spring! These funds, along with available naming opportunities, will provide us the foundation we need to have Phase 1 completed by the beginning of next school year.

I'd like to say a big thank you to the group of individuals who have worked this entire year to make Bloom possible. Thank you to our steering committee: chairs Diane Fisher and Taylor Sexton, and committee members Tracey Baird, Andrea Davis, Meg Dees, Kelly Goodman, and Amy Goodnight. Additionally, we want to thank the group that worked hard to provide an exciting live auction: chair Traci Williams and committee members Ashley Currin, Andrea Davis, Meg Dees, Kelly Goodman, and Alice Rich.

Sincerely,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Celebrating Mrs. Willliams' 40th Year of Teaching
Thursday's chapel was a special tribute to Mrs. Mary Lou Williams who this year celebrates her 40th year of teaching. Mrs. Williams began teaching in 1976 at North Rowan Middle School. She met her husband, Fred, that year, who was also a teacher at North Rowan Middle. From there Mrs. Williams went on to teach at Woodleaf Elementary from 1978 to 2005 and at Hanford Dole from 2005-2008. We have been blessed to have Mrs. Williams as the Salisbury Academy second grade teacher from 2008 to the present!

In a service that recognized Mrs. Williams and the many contributions she has made in the past 40 years, the lower school sang a hero medley, first grade performed a rap and a sweet presentation on what all of the letters in Mrs. Williams' name stand for, and the sixth grade presented both a poem and the "Rainforest Rap" (a throwback to their years in the second grade with Mrs. Williams as their teacher). Mrs. Williams' former colleagues Marvin Moore and Betty Cox shared messages about Mrs. Williams' positive influence and the way in which she serves as a role model and believes deeply in the potential of others.

A heartfelt thank you and congratulations goes out to Mrs. Williams, on behalf of the many students, teachers, and families whose lives she has touched!

SA teacher Mary Ann Cody models and inspires commitment to individuals with mental and physical disabilities

As part of a Discovery Lab series on building compassion and designing and implementing service projects, Mary Ann Cody visited SA's middle school. The first of a list of guest speakers who will share their passions and community initiatives, Mrs. Cody discussed her commitment to individuals with mental and physical disabilities. She focused on her love for specific individuals with whom she has built relationships, the different programs that she and her family created to serve elementary-aged children all the way up to adults, how goals were set and accomplished in creating and implementing these programs, and how our students can identify and champion programs of their own.

Mary Ann reached out to the children in a very personal way and touched each and every heart in the room. Inspiration and admiration abounded, and Mrs. Cody emerged as a powerful role model for our students and teachers.
