Discovery Programming Enhancements for 2018-2019
Dear Salisbury Academy Parents,

Meeting students at their interests and providing new and exciting opportunities for exploration and growth is an ongoing mission at Salisbury Academy. In addition to this, building community and accommodating busy and working families - and making your lives as full and easy as possible - will always be a high priority as we plan for the future.

With this in mind, we look to the 2018-19 school year as a fantastic opportunity to expand upon activities offered outside of school hours. We're excited to launch our co-curricular Discovery Programming which will be offered for an additional, reasonable fee and will encompass music, theatre, movement, and a number of other engaging options.

Nothing could be more valuable in this process than the feedback and ideas of our parents. Below is a link to an 11-question survey in which you can share feedback on programs currently under consideration as well as offer new ideas. Please take a moment to participate, as your input will shape the enrichment and the growth of our school community.

Sincerely,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

National Day of Prayer Chapel at SA
Mayor Al Heggins delivers the National Day of Prayer proclamation at Thursday's service.
Mayor Al Heggins began her National Day of Prayer proclamation at Thursday's chapel with a fun and heartfelt compliment for Salisbury Academy students.

"You are cute!" the Mayor said.

She then revealed that this compliment was much greater than one might think, as "CUTE" stands for something bigger: SA's students are C - for confident, U - for uniquely themselves, T for talented and able to better the world, and E for enterprising, she shared.

After the Mayor's proclamation, the National Day of Prayer chapel continued with prayers led by Salisbury Academy's eighth grade students. Prayers were shared for our local, state, and federal government, military, community, school, churches, and families.

Students from Salisbury High School's Air Force JROTC program presented the colors for the chapel.  After holding a silent concert of prayer and joining in song, students, faculty, and staff began their school day, inspired and grateful for our countries, communities, and leaders.

Invitation to Dr. Rob's Americana Museum
Hi, Salisbury Academy Families...Dr. Rob here.

Once again, I extend to all of you an invitation to make a trip to "Dr. Rob's Museum of Highway and Commercial Americana" this summer. Located 19.2 miles from Salisbury Academy on Highway 64, it is located at my house on a 400 acre farm in the Cool Spring community with a panoramic view of the Northwest Brushy Mountains. It makes for a great morning or late afternoon jaunt on a beautiful day.

Featured is the "Wall of Glass," a wall of 1200 different soda bottles, each a different brand. Other features are Coca Cola furniture, giant M & M characters, an early 20th century wooden ferris wheel seat, a huge Cheerwine sign right from the heart of Salisbury, filling station memorabilia, soft drink signs, a giant Pepsi bottlecap, et cetera-all neatly organized for accessible viewing. Other featured exhibits are the " blue room" illuminated with the blue hue of the sun shining through a virtual wall of cobalt glass, a fun pedal car exhibit the kids will enjoy, my fun cookie jar collection located in my music studio next door, and perhaps the most eye-popping feature-one of the world's largest Coca Cola bottles that stood at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Many have visited thus far, including school students and church groups...one church group has even come three times! I'm merely a guy that loves old stuff from my childhood, and I love to share my collection. Appointments can be made by calling me at 704-798-3103. Have a great summer coming up!
