A Celebration of Veterans and their Service to our Country
Dear Salisbury Academy Families,

In a very special annual ceremony, Salisbury Academy was honored to host the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard, Lieutenant Colonel Tom Loeblein, Mayor Karen Alexander, SA parents, and community members for our Veteran's Day Chapel earlier this week. Thank you to all who joined us for this meaningful celebration of the men and women who have given so much to serve our country.

The chapel service evoked strong feelings of gratitude and a deep thanks for the people who make our community and nation a wonderful place for children to grow, learn, and achieve their dreams.

On this Veteran's Day weekend, Salisbury Academy extends a heartfelt thank you to the veterans of our local community and beyond.

Sincerely,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Second and Sixth Grades Travel to Ancient Greece
Second GradeTeacher Mrs. Williams shares:

The Core Knowledge curriculum developed by E.D. Hirsch has been used by Salisbury Academy since its inception, and in this curriculum the second and sixth grade social studies units of Ancient Greece build upon one another. As part of this dynamic curriculum, it is a long-standing tradition for the school to host an Ancient Greek festival to celebrate the knowledge acquired during this unit.

This year sixth-graders planned and implemented seven centers through which second-graders rotated. The opening ceremony was a mini Olympic Games station where second-graders rode chariots and threw javelins. The chariots were tricycles and the javelins were foam noodles. The ceremony included the Olympic rings and the flag. Such fun!

Students clad in togas and tunics learned about weaponry, City States, drama, music, architecture, and jewelry. At the conclusion of the event, second-graders presented to the sixth-graders projects they designed. Their job was to create a god or goddess using a paper doll pattern.

To culminate a morning of applied learning, fun, and friendship, all participants enjoyed a delicious Greek treat catered by Mykonos Greek restaurant as the final event of the day.
