Eighth grade students work diligently to measure the density of various liquids, make predictions on how the densities compare, and then stack the liquids in a density column.

Maximizing Your Child's Academic Performance: Lunch and Learn, Sept. 27
Heidi Tringali, Occupational Therapist
Salisbury Academy Families:

We invite you to join us for our first Lunch and Learn for the 2017-2018 school year:

Maximizing your Child's Academic Potential

Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 12 to 1 p.m.

The Lunch and Learn will be led by Heidi Tringali, an academic resource specialist for Salisbury Academy students. Tringali holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in special education and psychology from Hastings College and a Master of Science degree in occupational therapy from Tufts University. She has practiced occupational therapy for over 20 years and specializes in pediatric school-based occupational therapy services. Tringali shares that her goal is to ensure that each child's fullest potential is realized.

Heidi will lead a discussion on helping children perform to their fullest potential. As parents, we do many things to make sure our children are able to give their best effort in school. We make sure they get enough sleep, make sure they are well nourished and do their homework, and make sure they arrive to school with the supplies they need. Yet even with all of our efforts, more and more children are performing below their potential or are showing signs of not being ready to learn.

During this lunch and learn, Heidi will share about what learning readiness looks like and what we are doing here at Salisbury Academy to maximize our children's academic performance. Heidi  has been a wonderful resource for our staff, and we look forward to you meeting her on September 27 at noon.

Kind Regards,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Lower School Science: Discoveries Abound!
First grade students create models of atoms.
Lower School Division Director Elizabeth Anderson shares:

A scientist is one who experiments, observes, studies a variety of topics, mixes chemicals, asks questions, predicts, and analyzes results. These are just a few words that Salisbury Academy's first- through fourth-graders used to describe a scientist. Each student walked away from the first lab realizing that he/she is a scientist.

Students engage in weekly lessons in the science lab. The lessons align with the Core Knowledge Sequence and often become an extension of what the students study in class. First-graders will experiment with the three states of matter and electricity. Second-graders will understand how magnets attract and repel items and how simple machines work. Third-graders will delve into the animal kingdom, human body systems, light and sound, ecology, and astronomy. Fourth-graders will focus on the complexities of meteorology. In addition, students in each grade will study biographies of different famous scientists. All students will experience hands-on learning and use different types of equipment in the science lab.

I look forward to watching our scientists' questions come to life this year!
Third grade students research animal classification in groups.
