Planning Strategically for the Future
Dear Salisbury Academy Parents,

As a new school year kicked off last week, the Salisbury Academy Board of Trustees and Strategic Planning committee joined together for a two-day retreat to launch a self-study as part of our upcoming comprehensive strategic planning process as we dream and plan for the future.

Led by Catawba President, Brien Lewis, the group spent two days working in small and large groups to identify broad goals for the school's future. The strategic plan will touch every aspect of the school and will be the guidepost against which we measure our achievements.

This year-long process will be facilitated by members of our strategic planning group and will include focus group sessions to help us hone in on specific recommendations through a collaborative process that includes representation from all of our constituencies: board members, parents, students, faculty and staff, and community members.

We look forward to sharing more information about the development of this plan during the school year.

Sincerely,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School
Last weekend's planning retreat launched an in-depth strategic planning process and generated inspiring ideas for SA's future.

A Heartwarming SA Tradition: 1st and 8th grade buddies
Middle School Division Director Mrs. Goodman shares:

First-graders were welcomed to the big school by their eighth grade buddies on Tuesday! Eighth grade students read to their younger peers and presented them with "Welcome to the Big School" cards. The buddies plan to meet monthly for a kindness project that will work to spread joy throughout the Rowan-Salisbury community.

One of the many benefits of a JK through 8 education, the first/eighth grade buddy program nurtures leadership in older students while building community and a strong sense of belonging in SA's younger learners.

Each year, one of the first questions the new eighth grade students have is, "Who is my buddy?!"  For the first-graders, an instant friendship with the most senior students in the school lets them know that they are an important part of our school community. This tradition warms the hearts of the students and the teachers that get to be a part of it each year.
