A Message from Mrs. Deal
Melanie Deal
Dear Salisbury Academy Families:

What a joy it has been to join a learning community of committed students, parents, and staff and to be part of the environment of loving and learning that occurs at SA. As the new school counselor and third grade assistant, I find myself appreciating all aspects of my positions.

As the school counselor, I'm eager to meet and talk with each student throughout this school year. My background of teaching elementary school and working as a counselor at the elementary and middle levels in public education has prepared me well for both of my roles at SA.

Over the course of the year I'll work with parents and staff to ensure that our students with accommodations are being served in the best learning capacity for their needs. Meetings have been and are currently being scheduled to establish common language and communication in regards to these students' best learning styles. By recognizing and maintaining communication throughout the school year, we can all secure the knowledge required to create expected achievement.

I'm available for a portion of my day to work with students who may need a release of an issue for which he/she is facing. Currently, I'm working with all classes in grades 2-8 to introduce myself, my role as the counselor, and how I can best help when needed. All students are able to meet with me during non-core curricular classes. At these times, I will assess their issue and determine the best way in which I can be of service.
I'm eager to continue to become familiar with the students and their parents as the year progresses. Please contact me with any issues or concerns that present themselves to you or your child. Together, we can create happy, healthy and whole children!

- Melanie Deal, school counselor and third grade assistant

Grandpersons' Day Sneak Preview
Dr. Rob and the students are truly revved up about our upcoming Grandpersons' Day program entitled 'Blast from the Past, Jaguar-Style!' For this year's concert, Dr. Rob spent the summer designing a program that he thought would resonate well with grandparents and bring back pleasant memories. The music has marvelous melodies, lush harmonies, exciting rhythms, and is so very fun for the students to perform!

The program this year actually has a different format from past programs. In previous years, the entire concert had one central theme for all age groups. For this year's concert, Dr. Rob used a three-tiered approach with the three different age groupings. The JK/K/1 age group will be performing older rock from the fifties era, the 2/3/4 age group will be performing hits from Motown, and the upper school will be performing beach music. Then, all groups will unite in their customary grand finale. It should be a grand time for all!
