Division Leadership at SA
Dear Salisbury Academy Families,

While reading the book Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek, a statement he made resonated with the culture that exists here at Salisbury Academy. Sinek shares, "Organizations that have strong cultures and shared values understand the importance of teamwork, create trust among their members, maintain focus, and most important, understand the importance of people and relationships to their mission success."

The team that exists here at Salisbury Academy is a devoted group of educators who prioritize the needs of students and give everything they have to advance the well-being of those around them. Over the next few weeks, you will meet the members of the academic administrative team and learn more about their roles this year and their vision for the year ahead. This group meets regularly to implement curriculum initiatives and provide leadership for academic decisions.

This year, we have three division leaders who are an integral part of the school's academic leadership team and work closely with the Head of School to implement strategic program goals, coach teachers, and take responsibility for all activities involving students and faculty in the day-to-day. Melissa Brown serves as our Early Education Division Director for Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Elizabeth Anderson oversees grades 1-4, and Jessica Goodman leads our Middle School Division.

Supporting this group, we have Heather Coulter, a 21-year Salisbury Academy veteran educator, serving as the Curriculum and Instruction Director.  Mrs. Coulter works collaboratively with the academic leadership team to set and meet strategic program goals, oversee new teacher training, and engage in faculty classroom observations to provide feedback related to curriculum implementation and classroom management.

An important addition to our staffing structure this year includes the position of school counselor. Mrs. Melanie Deal communicates and collaborates regularly with faculty members, students, and families regarding student interventions, accommodations, learning needs, and academic growth. She also counsels with parents and teachers in a proactive manner to support students in their social and emotional growth.

First and Eighth Grade Buddies
First-graders were welcomed to the big school by their eighth grade buddies on Wednesday! Eighth grade students read to their younger peers and presented them with "Welcome to the big school" cards.

The first of many meetings that the two grades will have over the course of the year, Wednesday served as an opportunity for the students to meet their buddies, introduce themselves, and share in some reading fun. Regular reading sessions will take place over the course of the year, and the two grades will also collaborate on a kindness project that brings joy to the entire school.

One of the many benefits of a JK through 8 education, the first/eighth grade buddy program nurtures leadership in older students while building community and a strong sense of belonging in SA's younger learners.
