Help individuals move their lives forward.

Thanks to support from people like you and the Dallas community, in 2016 we have been able to serve 147 members, house 29 teammates, help 52 friends find employment, and get 35 new students back into school and training, and we are still growing.  The following real life story is just one of the individuals we were able to help.

James was struggling to find employment in his small Louisiana town and was running out of options. He made the tough decision to pack his bags and purchase a one-way ticket to Dallas. As James quickly discovered, starting over wasn't as easy as he hoped it would be. James was homeless and hopeless, with nowhere to go or anyone to lean on. Ready for help, he found his way into Dallas LIFE. Once there, he found it hard to remain positive, it was a negative, soulless place where he often found other residents complaining. He needed something to lift his spirits and is thankful he found Back on My Feet. Not only did James find the vital employment resources that he was seeking but a community of positive support and encouraging individuals.

Growing up, team sports were a big part of his life so being a member of a community is very important to James. Recently James was invited to race a leg of a volunteer-led relay team for the Dallas Marathon in December. Through training with the group James feels more connected to his teammates and his community and is proud to represent Back on My Feet.

Through his commitment to the full program, James participated in our Next Steps training and education classes; including attending financial literacy, customer service training and learning about maintaining a professional image. With Back on My Feet's support he managed to secure a role working in IT. Before James joined Back on My Feet he was easy to get down on himself, he credits his team for encouraging him to keep moving forward and truly getting back on his feet.

"Back on My Feet helps me start my day in a positive way and has helped build my character."
