Honorees were selected based on their professional and community involvement and achievements that have set the pace for the overall community.

A former New Orleans City Councilman and New Orleans Criminal Justice Commissioner, Carter is the lead attorney at James Carter & Associates, LLC law firm. Carter has extensive trial experience and a high rate of favorable verdicts. James Carter has been recognized both locally and nationally for his leadership abilities.

In 2015, Carter was appointed to the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, the body that governs policy guidance and fiscal oversight for nine public universities in the State of Louisiana. Carter was nominated for a 2014 and 2015 Litigator Award by the Trial Lawyer Board of Regents. He was also selected as a 2012 CityBusiness Leader in Law and served as a fellow with the VERA Institute of Justice.
