I have been home schooled my whole life and growing up the neighborhood kids would make fun of me a lot.  It was very difficult for me and I didn't want to go through that anymore. I wanted friends and I wanted to feel accepted. My mom did a lot of research and found out about Special Olympics.  She thought it would be good for me because I was a super hyper kid and she thought running would take away some of my extra energy.

The first sport that I participated in was athletics.  It was great!  Before I knew it, I was trying different sports and was feeling accepted.  I even started making lots of friends.

Special Olympics really helped me and it also helped my mom. She says that thanks to Special Olympics she does not feel alone anymore.  She has a great support system.  Other parents, coaches and volunteers help her when things get difficult.

Special Olympics have given me the opportunity to gain so many good friends!  Before Special Olympics, I didn't have a lot of friends and always kept to myself but now I find myself wanting to be around people.  I love meeting new people now.   It has also given me the opportunity to play sports.  Before I wasn't able to, but now I have ribbons and medals that I can show off.

I have gained so much confidence in myself and learned leadership skills that help me in life. I am currently an assistant instructor for skiing and became a volunteer at the Adaptive Program at Crotched Mountain. It is a very intense training program. There are five sessions that I had to attend before the season started and each was about three hours long along with some quizzes that I needed to take and a ski test to make sure that I have the proper skiing skills. I have always wanted to do this program so I could share my passion of skiing and help others experience the joy of skiing.  I would have never thought I would be able to achieve that dream, but Special Olympics taught me to dream big and gave me skills which helped me achieve that dream. Being an athlete, it has made me realize that I am capable of so much. I recently received my bachelor's degree in computer information systems from UNH Manchester.

Remember to always believe in yourself and that no dream is too big!
