Tuition Due
A friendly reminder: if you pay the tuition directly to the school, your 40 percent tuition balance is due tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 12. Contact Kathy Creekmuir with questions.

We Are Making Campus Safer
Per the recommendation of Greensboro Police, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 16, we are going to close the gates closest to the west end of campus (the first two coming from North Elm Street) from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the school day. This will make that end of campus safer for middle school students who regularly walk across the roads during school, direct visitors unfamiliar with our campus to enter closer to the administrative offices, and serve as a helpful reminder to parents to check their children in and out at the main office.

It's Gonna Be The Bee's Knees
The invitations are out, and you need to be in. Send your reply by Jan. 19 for the 2018 Canterbury Auction, The Roaring 20s. We're celebrating our 25th year and raising money for Canterbury all at once. We promise a swell time!

The Fund-A-Need after the live auction will go to the retirement fund for the Canterbury bus, which is 22 years old. It was given to the school used but refurbished in 2001, and has traveled many happy miles. While still road-worthy, the doctor's appointments are too frequent and retirement is on the horizon.

Annual Used Children's Book Sale Starts Feb. 5
Mrs. McIlwain's 2nd grade class is preparing for the annual used children's book sale, which is scheduled for Feb. 5-9. We are in need of gently loved children's books. All donations are greatly appreciated. Feel free to drop books in the office or in Mrs. McIlwain's classroom in Fry Hall. Thank you.

Sign Up For After-School Activities
Our Encore program offers a variety of after-school clubs, lessons, and activities, and it's time to sign up for spring semester. The brochure of offerings is available  here .

Gear Up For The Pep Rally Jan. 18
Students are encouraged to wear dress-code-appropriate Canterbury gear to the pep rally on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 2:30 p.m. Please stay for our home games (JV Girls', JV Boys', Varsity Girls', and Varsity Boys' basketball) against Calvary Day. Go Cougars!

You Ask. We Deliver!
We heard the call for more hooded sweatshirts. You can order directly from the Custom Ink site
here
to ensure your child gets the correct size and color. Blue, pink, navy, and other options are available. The group order form will close on Monday, Jan. 22,  and sweatshirts will be delivered in mid-February. The school store carries a very small inventory of sweatshirts due to cost and the difficulty of predicting sizes and colors that will be in demand. We currently have a good supply of gray youth and adult crewneck sweatshirts in the office for $25 each, and a small inventory of hooded sweatshirts for $30.

Winter Sports Recognition Assembly Is Feb. 7
Please join us for the Winter Sports Assembly in Berry Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 8:05-8:40 a.m. We will recognize the student athletes and coaches from our Cougar, JV and Varsity Boys' Basketball teams, JV and Varsity Girls' Basketball teams and the Swim team.
Parents of 8th grade student athletes are also invited to join your son or daughter in Berry Hall, 7:45-8 a.m., for a special breakfast for 8th graders and their families prior to the sports recognition assembly.  Please contact Athletic Director Jill Jones, if you have any questions.

We Need You At Hot Lunch
Every time we have a hot lunch, volunteer parents serve it. It's time to sign up for Hot Lunch volunteer slots for January through May. Please use this link to volunteer. It takes many volunteers to serve our students, and it's a fun way to see your students at school. If you would like to be a substitute, you can also sign up at the link. If you have any questions, please call or text Kelly McKee at  (336) 339-3651

Alumni Invited To Submit Art
To celebrate our 25th year, art teacher Molly Stouten is organizing an alumni art show that will be displayed in Stafford Arts Center in April and May. If you know of Canterbury alumni who have continued making art since leaving Canterbury, please ask them to submit up to two pieces. Molly is looking for fine art (paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography). To submit art for consideration, ask the alum to submit by email ( stoutenm@canterburygso.org ): a jpg photo of the piece, student's name, art medium, art size, date produced, sale value or not for sale, Canterbury graduation year, high school and college attended. The deadline for submission is March 1. Art will be due to Molly, ready to hang or display, by March 16. The reception is March 28.

Discuss "Anne of Green Gables" Jan. 18
Join Kari Baumann on Jan. 18, 3:15-4:15 p.m., for tea and raspberry cordial as we talk about one of our favorite red-headed heroines and her many adventures from the book, "Anne of Green Gables," by Lucy Maud Montgomery. We will also watch some clips from the 1985 miniseries. Contact Kari Baumann at baumannk@canterburygso.org.

Technology Take-Apart Week Is Coming
The Canterbury library will have its second annual Technology Take-Apart Week this spring. If Santa brought you something new, please consider donating any unwanted electronics to the library instead of discarding them. We will recycle them when we are finished taking them apart! If you have questions, please contact Kari Baumann at  baumannk@canterburygso.org .

Come Hear An Eighth Grade Sermon
Eighth grade sermons are an important part of a Canterbury education. Eighth graders weave together what they've learned, including writing clearly, speaking in public, sharing spiritual learning, and demonstrating leadership. These sermons always have a heartfelt and timely message.  Attached  here   is a complete list of sermons so that you can mark your calendar to hear as many as possible. Sermons for the next few weeks are:
Friday, Jan. 19: Josh Hoffman
Friday, Jan. 26: Helen Dehnert
Monday, Jan. 29: Lilly Palmer
