NEW ORLEANS - From "having it all" to "knowing their value," women in the workplace are claiming their future and charting their destiny. The music and entertainment industry is yet another industry that is witnessing the awakening of the economic impact of women artists, entrepreneurs and executives excelling professionally, establishing their value and becoming leaders in the music business community. However, how is this accomplished? Unfortunately, there are no quick answers or magic bullets.

The “Women Succeeding in Music” (schedule) series will feature voices from the frontline of gender equality and excellence--those who have succeeded, and those who are still aspiring to make their mark in the music industry.

Join the 27th Annual Cutting Edge CE Conferences and Events as it presents panel discussions on the impact of women artists, entrepreneurs, and executives in the music industry.

Sera Buras, professionally known as “Serabee”

The Mississippi Songbird  "I was born on Saturday and singing on Sunday," as Sera so aptly puts it. “Music is in my blood and the road I’ve traveled can’t help but form my music.” Sera Buras, professionally known as “Serabee,” hails from Kiln, Mississippi with the wandering strains of roadhouse blues and rollicking revivals physically embedded in her songs. Irresistible pop, country and R&B adorn her soulful vocal presence and piano playing. As a singer, songwriter and musician, the creative edge of Sera points to this soulful artist’s deep roots and colorful background in the American South.
Growing up the daughter of a Pentecostal minister father (always a bluesman at heart) and singer/songwriter mother, Sera was raised on the music of Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Sam Cooke, Bob Dylan, Dolly, Aretha and of course...good ole gospel music. Realizing her musical ambition at an early age, she traveled with her family’s tent revival, leading the musical praise and worship, excelling on the Hammond B-3 organ and piano. Striking out on her own, Sera began performing in New Orleans & Mississippi clubs where she garnered quite a local following. The soulful songstress created two independent recordings catching the attention of veteran music industry executives, Doug Morris, Gary Katz and LA Reid. She was signed to major labels, Universal and Sony, where she released an EP (Serabee) and had the ITunes single of the week, “Driving Me Stupid.” She also became a finalist on the first season of “The Voice” on Blake Shelton's team. As a naturally gifted songwriter, with a strong commercial appeal, Sera penned the number one smash “Crazy Chick” for platinum sensation Charlotte Church in Europe and has since been writing with the hit makers in Nashville, London and New York. Sera recently returned home to record her latest album drawing on her natural ability and southern heritage and without the interruption of major label politics. She says it will be very poignant and nostalgic.....the prodigal daughter returning home from major label deals and touring the world to embrace her roots to record what she calls "the front porch songs" in a historical 1920s church turned studio in New Orleans. Sera is hoping this southern, soulful direction will finally be the sound that her fans and the world will know her for.
Amy Lott, Multi-Instrumentalist and Singer-Songwriter

Amy Lott, hails from Meridian, MS, the birthplace of Country Music. Make no mistake though, Amy Lott is not a country artist. Yes, she is influenced by her birthright but Amy has transcended the genre and has created a sound that, while reminiscent of Linda Ronstadt, Flying Burrito Brothers and others, is decidedly her own sound. Amy’s music reflects her own personal struggles and achievements and stands alone as a beacon of optimism. Recently, Amy recorded her first EP of original music in Nashville, Brooklyn, NY and New Orleans, LA with an Ace band and producer Drew Young at the helm. 2018 finds Amy releasing her EP and the first single, You Give Me Hope, leading the charge. The animated video of the single has been viewed 2.5 million times! You can catch Amy on the stage throughout the American South with international appearances in the UK and Sweden. This is definitely an artist not to be missed.
Jessi Campo, Musician, Jazz vocalist, Owner of Javi Production

Jessi’s distinctive and memorable voice plus glamorous attire compliment her heartfelt performances and make her an incredible entertainer with a radiant personality who captures all audiences. Often compared to Natalie Cole and Etta James and La Lupe in her vocal style, she is indisputably an exceptional talent.

Born in New York of Latin descent, Jessi Campo started singing and writing songs on her guitar at the age of 12 and as a bilingual Singer/Songwriter has been awarded many certificates of recognition. Jessi’s specialty is to capture a memorable moment through her lyrics and interpretations so that each person who is present feels her music.
Inspired by friends, family and her parents Giovanni and Nina who have performed with many famous Latin performers back in the days such as Tito Puente, Peres Prado, Beny More and many more, Jessi will release her Bilingual CD this year.

The upcoming CD, titled “La Pasion de La Lupe will be filled with classics like “Que Te Pedi” and other Cuban Boleros plus a couple of originals. The entire CD will be memorable and transport you back in time. Thanks to the exceptional production of Jose D Velazquez this album has captured the essence of the Cuban sound with a crossover fusion and collaboration of musicians from Spain, Los Angeles and Miami. Each classic and original song takes on new life and meaning for every listener that will be part of a memory in the past or a moment in the present. You will be sure to enjoy her heartfelt authenticity and passion in her Bolero CD.

in the city where it was born.
Please Visit Us Today!
Through dynamic interactive exhibits, multigenerational educational programming, research facilities and engaging musical performances, the music New Orleans made famous is explored in all its forms.

Housed in the historic Old U.S. Mint, strategically located at the intersection of the French Quarter and the Frenchmen Street live music corridor, the New Orleans Jazz Museum is in the heart of the city's vibrant music scene.

Through partnerships with local, national and international educational institutions, the New Orleans Jazz Museum promotes the global understanding of jazz as one of the most innovative, historically pivotal musical art forms in world history.

Jazz Collection

The New Orleans Jazz Museum's collection is the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the world.

The Jazz Collection chronicles the music and careers of the men and women who created, enhanced and continue in the tradition of New Orleans jazz at the local, national and international levels. It consists of instruments, pictorial sheet music, photographs, records, tapes, manuscripts and other items ranging from Louis Armstrong's first coronet to a 1917 disc of the first jazz recording ever made. It includes the world's largest collection of instruments owned and played by important figures in jazz- trumpets, cornets, trombones, clarinets and saxophones played by jazz greats such as Bix Beiderbecke, Edward "Kid" Ory, George Lewis, Sidney Bechet and Dizzy Gillespie.

Other artifacts in the Jazz Collection include some 12,000 photographs from the early days of jazz; recordings in a wide variety of formats, including over 4,000 78 rpm records that date from 1905 to the mid-1950s, several thousand 12-inch LPs and 45 rpm records, approximately 1,400 reel-to-reel tapes; posters, paintings and prints; hundreds of examples of sheet music from late 19th-century ragtime to popular songs of the 1940s and 1950s - many of them first editions that became jazz standards; several hundred rolls of film featuring concert and nightclub footage, funerals, parades, and festivals; hundred of pieces of relevant ephemera; and architectural fragments from important jazz venues...
