Sassy Stitches!

There is something about old things that I am drawn to more and more as I get older. Hmm - maybe a connection there.  Old sewing machines, old furniture, old quilts, and old friends - love them all! I love this old machine one of our customers brought to class this week.  It belonged to her mother-in-law and sews like a pro!

I had lunch with this handsome young man this week.  His mother was a dear friend who we lost to cancer several years ago. She left quite a legacy in her two awesome sons. I claim Dylan as part mine! He's a great young man who treated me this time!  I saw this sign at the restaurant where we ate that ties in to the whole getting old thing. LOL!

Lynn stopped in this week and shared some things she found in her mother's attic. Look at this old yo-yo quilt and the two beautiful folded pillows!  Pictures don't do these old                                               beauties justice.

There's just something lovely about old things!

Planning is well underway for this years "Airing of the Quilts!"  Mark your calendars and join us in Downtown Franklin on Saturday, May 13, 2017.  Vendors will be set up and downtown shops open at 9:00. The event will last until 4:00. Sassy Stitches will be open at 10:00 as usual but remain open until 4:00 for this special event. We will have specials on Friday and Saturday that you don't want to miss!

On Friday, May 12, we will offer a class to make this sweet tulip wall hanging. This class begins at 10:00 and lasts until noon. Cost will be $20 plus supplies.  Call the shop or come by to reserve your spot!

We will also have a Make & Take class on Saturday.  Stay tuned for more details!

Remember we are providing opportunities for you to come work on your club projects during the "Sit & Sew" times this year or if
you're not in a club, just come sew! These days have been set aside for you to use our classroom and the supplies while you fellowship with others and work towards completing projects.   BUT . . . YOU MUST RESERVE A SPOT.  We are limiting the number of people to 10 on each of the sewing days so if you are interested you need to call and reserve your spot.  It's totally free!  But we only have room for so many so let us know you're coming and we will let you know if there is still room. You can get into the classroom at 9:45 and sew until 4:00!  WOW!
Staff can answer questions and help you briefly but they will be working on the floor taking care of other business. This is not class time so please be respectful of our staff members. You can order lunch or bring your own. Come sew with us!   Did I mention it's FREE ?!?!?

Please note the change in the Breakfast Club May meeting. Due to Airing of the Quilts, that meeting has been changed from May 13th to May 20th. And don't forget, seasonal customers!!! We are still planning a Breakfast Club just for you! Join Annie for breakfast, recipes, and fun projects. Your first meeting will be this month on April 18th. Call or stop by to sign up!

There has been a delay in the publication of Deb's new BOM pattern. We will keep you posted!

Sassy Stitches  will be happy to help you select fabrics and gather the Creative Grids tools you need to get ready for workshops or classes. We also have special sales for attendees at local quilting events.
Remember that we carry Creative Grids rulers and tools so call or come by the shop to get all of your supplies! We will be glad to ship them to you if you don't live close by.

I so appreciate your business.  I can't express how much it means to me that you choose Sassy Stitches.  Thank you SEW much! Until next Sunday, have a wonderful week and come see us!

Paul Johnson
We can't keep Paul's beautiful ruler holders in the shop!  He recently used this beautiful Zebra Wood to make these.  Wow!

We love seeing what he's going to bring in next!  We also love seeing his other half, Ann. They are such a fun couple!Paul left a book at the shop with pictures of several of his creations.  He can also create a custom piece if you have something in mind.  I'm a little partial to his sewing furniture but he can make much more.
Upcoming Events
I met Nancy Pope last week and love her enthusiasm and passion for quilting.  We will be having an awesome class soon that will teach you everything you need to know about binding.  You will need to bring something to bind so be thinking about that and make plans to save something just for this class!
Quilting since 1977, students attending her classes describe Janice as passionate, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and engaging. Whether teaching one of her simple quilt patterns, bag patterns, or a technique', novice as well as experienced quilters will leave with new insight and skills.
An award winning quilter who has taught both domestically and internationally, Janice resides in Raleigh, NC with her husband of 35+ years and enjoys having two of her six grandsons nearby. Check out her website at Anything But Boring.  More info soon!

We are excited to announce that we have scheduled some classes with  instructor Nancy Sapin!  Nancy is a  Freelance National Educator representing Sulky of America.  She creates beautiful projects and shares her wealth of information as an awesome teacher.  We have a conflict with the previously scheduled May 6th class.  It's my fault!  Stay tuned for more info!

Ryan's Case for Smiles
Our charity focus at Sassy Stitches is Ryan's Case for Smiles. This is an organization that provides fun pillowcases for sick children .  ALL of our donations will be used in Asheville, NC at Mission Children's Hospital. I volunteered for this charity for several years and have personally delivered pillow cases to kids at Mission Children's Hospital and assure you it brings great joy to sick children to pick out a fun pillowcase. When you read the story about Cindy and her son, Ryan, you will understand what a great cause this is. It's the perfect charity for anyone who sews! Here is a link to the organization's website.
We will accept pillowcases, fabric donations for making pillow cases and monetary donations. If you choose to make pillowcases, there are tips on the website (see link above) about making them. The volunteers who take the pillowcases wash them before delivery. Something so simple as a fun pillowcase really does bring a smile to a sick child.  THANKS!
