Governor Cuomo announces $738 million in economic development funding through the second round of  Regional Council awards

On December 19, 2012, Governor Cuomo announced the second round of funding awards for the Regional Council initiative. A centerpiece of the governor's strategy to jump-start the economy and create jobs, the Regional Councils were put in place in 2011 to redesign the state's approach to economic development from a top-down model to a community-based, performance-driven approach. The initiative empowers community, business and academic leaders, as well as members of the public in each region of the state, to develop strategic plans specifically tailored to their region's unique strengths and resources in order to create jobs and support economic growth. For full story, click here.

2012-2013 Winter Tourism Campaign
I  NEW YORK's winter campaign is underway!

On December 4, ESD's I LOVE NEW YORK program kicked off its winter campaign with a Winter Media & Industry Night in New York City, which was attended by nearly 75 travel media and ski shop representatives. At the event, I LOVE NEW YORK announced that this winter's promotion had launched with a $750,000 online and out-of-home media buy, live radio-reads and much more.

Media met with representatives from New York's ski industry and learned about New York ski-related promotions for the season, including the return of the renowned "4th Graders Ski Free," "January Learn-to-Ski Month" and "Ski & Stay" offers, as well as a brand new 10-10-10 promotion, in which participating ski areas statewide offered 10,000 lift tickets for $10 for one day only on January 10, 2013. Regional tourism representatives were also on hand to promote non-ski winter activities, inside and out. For full story, click here.

Economic Development

On January 9, 2013, Governor Cuomo laid out his 2013 plan for New York State in his State of the State address.  Over the last two years, New York State has shown the importance of economic development on state and local levels, and how effective government can be in creating partnerships to spur its growth.
