Pastor Michael J. Matheny - Biography

Rev. Michael J. Matheny, Sr. was born in Oklahoma.

During high school his family moved to southwest Missouri

where he finished high school and then college.

After college he served as a youth pastor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

and later a similar position in Madison, WI.

He then moved to Chicago to attend seminary.

After graduation he was called to his first senior minister

position in Emporia, Kansas. After his pastorate in Kansas

Rev. Matheny was called to a congregation in Milwaukee, WI.,

where he served as senior pastor of two different congregations.

During his years in Wisconsin he was also an interim

in five congregations and served as an on-call chaplain at two hospitals.

Rev. Matheny met his wife Donna in college and they have two children.

Their daughter Michelle lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico

and has three children and two grandchildren.

Their son, Michael Jr., lives in Brookfield, Connecticut and has four children.

He is an avid golfer, enjoys walking, biking travel, movies,

and the Green Bay Packers.

a note from Pastor Mike Matheny

Greetings from Wisconsin!

I am writing this letter on December 19th prior to our trip

to Albuquerque where we will spend Christmas and New Years

with our daughter and family. I love seeing the luminaries

that decorate many of the homes. Our son-in-law is a pastor,

so we will attend Christmas eve services there.

I hope your Advent/Christmas season was filled with

special music and worship opportunities.

Donna and I attended one of the Messiah productions

which is always a a highlight of the season.

As you read in my biography,

I have served as an interim in five different congregations.

As your interim I will be providing pastoral care to the

congregation until a new pastor is called.

Please feel free to call me or stop by the church anytime.

I am never too busy to talk with you.

Donna and I are looking forward to meeting all of you

and hearing your life stories. I believe each person

is unique, special, and loved by God.

God's love gives us meaning and purpose and hope for each day.

I am praying that in the new year you will experience

God's love in new and helpful ways.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Children's Ministry

Sunday School begins at 10:15 for the children.

They attend our regular Worship Service with the adults and immediately following the

"Children's Sermon"

they leave in the capable hands of their Sunday School teachers

for a meaningful message all their own!

IGNITE - Youth Group

Wednesday evenings from

6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Fun, Fellowship, Bible study,

and Mission work.

IGNITE will be going to Southern Pines, NC

from July 19-25 2015,

on a 'work mission' trip through,

Group Mission Trips.

We will be cooking on January 10th at the

"Welcome Back Snowbirds Breakfast"

and donations from this event will help

cover the cost of our mission trip next summer!

Still space available and a registration fee of

$50.00 after the 30th of October.

Ignite's local missions are Interfaith Ministries, Caring and Sharing of South Santa Rosa County, and the Ronald McDonald House. Please help us by donating non-perishable foods; boxed or canned, and don't forget about baby food and diapers for Interfaith Ministries, and Caring and Sharing of South Santa Rosa County, as well as toilet paper for RMH. Once a month we will deliver the goods to the appropriate places.

A box will be placed in the Narthex each week for the collection.
