Wishing you a fertile beginning to your new year. Each New Year we have a chance to set our intentions and explore what we would like to create in the upcoming days!
The Music Salon enjoyed hosting the Boston Association for Cabaret Artists (BACA) Holiday Party on December 7. A great song-filled community time was had by all! And it was equally delightful leading a workshop on the Power of Voice at the home of Margaret Arndt and David Sneickus. A particularly musical gathering of folks attended.

Upcoming Music Salon events, a special author's reception with Cuf Ferguson, where he will discuss his new book Evolving the Human Race Game on January 11, and an evening of music with delightful father-son duo Jack and Jesse Gauthier on February 1. Work by visual artist Rowan Wielblad will be on display at the February 1 event.
And February 7 delightful singer and vocal coach Sandi Hammond will be doing a special workshop. More on that soon!
January 10, I am leading a Community As Healer workshop from 11 am - 2 pm in Newton.
This month I wanted to share two beautiful pieces by colleagues of mine: The Six Ways of Compassionate Living (from Pema Chodron) summarized by my colleague Brock Davis, and a piece on Emotional Healing and Love by Jeff Brown. Your comments and feedback are always welcome!
Heartfully Linda
"Be patient with sadness
Let it come closer, let it engulf you if it must.
Until there is no division between 'self' and 'sadness.'
Until you cannot call it 'sadness' at all.
Until there is only intimacy.
Sadness keeps you soft and flexible.
It reminds you, when you have forgotten,
of all the beautiful fragility underneath all things.
In the softness of the heart lies its capacity to love.
Sadness is not the opposite of joy, but its gateway."
--Jeff Foster
"Never ignore a person who loves you, cares for you and misses you. Because one day you might wake up and realize you lost the moon while chasing the stars." |

The Six Ways of Compassionate Living
|
These points are from Pema Chodron, as summarized by my colleague Brock Davis. They offer a wonderful context within which to begin the new year.
1. Generosity: Giving as a path of learning to let go.
2. Discipline: Training in not causing harm in a way that is daring and flexible.
3. Patience: Training in abiding with the restlessness of our energy and letting things evolve at their own speed. If waking up takes forever, still we go moment by moment, giving up all hope of fruition and enjoying the process.

Emotional Healing and Love |
Jeff Brown is a wonderful writer who posts many of his reflective pieces on his Facebook page. I thought this piece on Emotional Healing and Love was very well said.
"One thing that is clear to me is the value of emotional healing work both in our efforts to prepare for love and in our efforts to sustain it. This is not to say that love cannot enter our lives when we are emotionally unhealthy, but it is helpful if we can do some work to clear our debris in advance."
"When we don't do it, it becomes difficult to recognize love, to attune to love, to hold love safe."

Music Notes
|
Music is such a source of great joy, and is a universal language to connect people heart-to-heart. In the spirit, I am working on recording a new CD, "Heart-to-Heart," working with the extraordinarily talented Doug Hammer at his Dreamworld Studio in Lynn, MA.
Friends ask where they can see me sing. Some of the places I sing regularly are listed below. I guarantee you will have a fun time at all of them!

What is EKP?
| EKP is Emotional-Kinesthetic Psychotherapy, a heart-centered, body-centered psychotherapy method Linda Marks developed and has taught and practiced for nearly twenty years. Working with the heart, touch with permission, the wisdom of the body and the intuitive guidance of the spirit, EKP creates a special sense of intimacy that deeply touches and transforms most all who participate.
Participants can be "client," witness or helper as an individual group member has a "turn" to do deeper heart-centered, body-centered psychospiritual work in the center. Since the electromagnetic field of the heart extends out 10 - 12 feet from our bodies, as we go deeper and open our hearts, we are all touched.
EKP helps restore our capacity as organs of perception. The skin is our largest organ, and a source of soul deep knowing, perception and expression. When our hearts and hands can work as one, we move beyond defenses safely and respectfully and find freedom, connection and expression.
Emotional safety is the foundation of EKP. When we are emotionally safe, we are more aware of feelings, sensations and deeper thoughts in our bodies and hearts. You will have a chance to listen to and care for your heart as you help create and hold a safe healing space for everyone's heart. Experience what we mean when we say that in EKP, "when anyone has a turn, everyone has a turn."
