Upper Chattahoochee Chapter #436 - Trout Unlimited
www.ucctu.org
January 2015

In November UCCTU held a joint meeting with the Georgia Women Fly Fishers at Ippolito's.  It was a good opportunity for attendees to meet and get to know each other, to exchange ideas, and to learn about upcoming events for both organizations.  We will continue to collaborate with GWFF by encouraging members to attend their events, and vice versa.  To that end I would like to announce the GWFF annual fundraising event, Mardi Gras 2015 at Sweetwater Brewing Company on March 7.  This event is always a lot of fun.  More information can be found on their web site:    http://www.georgiawomenflyfishing.com

Our reaching out to the GWFF is part of a larger effort to encourage more participation in UCCTU by women.  We need to convey to them and other prospective new members that there are many ways to contribute to our mission of conserving, protecting and restoring coldwater fisheries and their watersheds, regardless of fishing skills or interest.  We encourage our male members to invite the women in their lives to attend upcoming meetings and events - the more, the merrier.

The brown trout pictured above was caught on the Madison River during the Dream Trip in 2013.  It was an absolutely incredible trip.  I share this with you as a reminder that 2015 Dream Trip raffle tickets will be available from UCCTU officers at our monthly meetings in January and February.  Buying these tickets is a great way to support Trout Camp.

Hope to see you at Ippolito's on the 27th.

Sincerely,
Jim

Chapter Spring 2015 Trip to Florida

We've fished local and nearby waters over and over again, so it's time we head someplace new (down South) and make our mark on the sun-drenched shores of the Florida Panhandle! That's right, we're heading south to fish the Port St. Joe bay, flats, shoreline and Gulf. The plan is to drive there Thursday afternoon, April 23, fish Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning (optional), and return Sunday afternoon, April 26. Arrive earlier and/or stay later-it's all up to you. Continue Reading

Faces in the Stream-
Hartley Brothers

I recently had the opportunity to work alongside Ryan and Myles Hartley while they spent a Saturday teaching the Fly Fishing Merit Badge to a group of eager Boy Scouts.  Watching them teach casting and fly tying techniques to young men about their same age, I had to find out what drew them to the sport and what motivated them to take their skills to the next level.  Ryan is 15 and a Sophomore and Myles is in 8th grade at Cherokee County, and when they aren't fishing their own ties you might find them editing and posting their own videos on YouTube under the moniker "Madfishinskillz". Continue Here
