AZ ArtWorker Returns with Workshops in Tucson and Phoenix
AZ ArtWorker workshops in Phoenix and Tucson
A pair of AZ ArtWorker events have been scheduled for February 2016. Launched in August 2015 through a grant from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, AZ ArtWorker facilitates dialogue and knowledge-sharing between Arizona artists, their national and international artist peers, and residents of Arizona communities.

A two-day professional development workshop with Linda Essig 
Learn how to improve the business operations of your creative practice in this two-day artist professional development workshop led by Dr. Linda Essig. Participants will learn how to develop a more entrepreneurial approach to their creative practice and will receive a free copy of the Arizona Arts Entrepreneur Toolkit. The toolkit puts resources, step-by-step instructions, and templates in one place to help artists support the business side of their creative practice.
With an introduction by artist and culture leader Fatimah Halim
Presenting Partners: ASU Performance in the Borderlands and Black Theatre Troupe
Join theatre artist Asantewa Sunni-Ali as she leads participants through storytelling, creative writing, and Image Theatre exercises designed to create liberating stories that question dominant paradigms and reclaim community narratives.

AZ Creative Aging Kick-off Event
AZ Creative Aging Kick-off.
On Friday, January 15, 2016, the Arizona Commission on the Arts officially kicked-off its AZ Creative Aging initiative with a morning event at Phoenix Art Museum. Introduction to Creative Aging: Myths of Aging and the Power of the Arts was attended by over 130 individuals from all across the state, and featured a talk on healthy aging from Dr. Walter Nieri, Director of the Center for Health Aging at Banner Sun Health Research Institute, and a keynote address from Jorge Merced, Associate Artistic Director of New York-based Pregones Theater and a pioneering practitioner of creative aging principles and techniques.

Artist Research & Development Grants Announced
2016 Artist Research _ development Grant recipients
On January 11, 2016, the Arizona Commission on the Arts  announced the recipients of Artist Research and Development Grants for Fiscal Year 2016. This highly-competitive grant program awards funding to Arizona artists practicing in a variety of artistic disciplines in support of research and development leading to the creation of new works of art. This year, 10 of 100 applicants received an award of up to $5,000 in funding.

On Friday, January 22, 2016, Arizona Citizens for the Arts announced the nominees for the 2016 Arizona Governor's Arts Awards. The Arizona Commission on the Arts congratulates each of these worthy individuals, organizations and institutions. 

Arizona Arts Congress
Each February our friends at Arizona Citizens for the Arts visit the capitol to meet with legislators and describe the impact of public funding for the arts in their communities. This year's event is Thursday, February 4, 2016. Click below to register.

The City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture has partnered with Arizona Citizens for the Arts, Arizona Commission on the Arts, and Pave Program in Arts Entrepreneurship at Arizona State University to offer SAVVY, a professional development series that offers emerging artists and small arts organizations a space to learn capacity building techniques.

Step-by-Step Grant Writing Workshop
February 5, 2016 
Join Sarah Sullivan, Development Manager of Childsplay and co-founder of Rising Youth Theatre for an interactive grantwriting workshop. Sullivan will demonstrate her step-by-step process in writing a grant: identifying the important pieces of a grant application, where to store grant writing files, estimating how long an application will take to complete, and more.

3 Million Stories: Special Registration Rate for Arizona Creatives
3 Million Stories Conference
The Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University and the National Endowment for the Arts have presented the Arts Commission with a unique opportunity, allowing us to offer Arizona's arts and culture workers a drastically discounted registration rate for the 3 Million Stories conference.

Members of Arizona's arts and culture community are invited to register for the full conference for $75 - an 80% discount from the standard rate. 

Informed by the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project, the conference will feature interactive design roundtables, dynamic breakout sessions and stimulating presentations by thought leaders working at the intersections of art, education and economy.

Professional Development Grants (PDG) are designed to assist Arizona artists, arts administrators and arts educators with funding support for participation in professional development and skills-building activities which contribute to significant professional growth. 

Arizona Gives Day 2016
The next Arizona Gives Day has been officially scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, 2016, and the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits invites all Arizona nonprofit organizations to register for this single-day fundraising event. For those new to the process, or returning after closing a previous account, the Alliance has provided an FAQ.

The NALAC Leadership Institute (NLI) is a week-long rigorous program in arts management and leadership development that delivers innovative and practical strategies that lead to successful business practices in the arts. 
 

NEA Grants Webinars
The NEA has scheduled webinars covering the basics of the Art Works and Challenge America funding categories, how to apply to the NEA, how to select work samples, and how to prepare a strong application. After each presentation, there will be time for Q&A with NEA staff.

Contemporary Forum Artists Grants Awards
Contemporary Forum of Phoenix Art Museum is accepting applications from emerging Arizona artists for the annual Artists Grants competition. The selection committee will award up to seven grants of $1500 each. 

Pave Biennial Speakers Series: New Venture Creation in the Arts
The Pave Program sponsors a series of public talks and a biennial symposium on creativity and new venture creation in the arts. All events are open to the public and many events are free. This year's speakers include Roberto Bedoya.
