ADHD in Moms
When your
"constant state of overwhelm" is more than just busy schedule

Were you known as a social butterfly as a child, a "Chatty Cathy" or daydreamer who struggled with concentration, organization and follow-through issues in school and at home?

Women often slip through the cracks of childhood ADHD diagnosis since many do not present the disruptive hyperactivity symptoms typically associated with ADHD. Oftentimes girls with ADHD are able to maintain an outward appearance of having it "all together" but find as they grow into adults, and most notably mothers, the pressures of juggling work schedules, family life and other responsibilities exacerbates symptoms.

While some develop coping skills to stay focused at work, many women struggle at home where the countless distractions make it impossible to focus on the task at hand. Chronic lateness, forgotten appointments, disorganization and missed bill payments are just some of the consequences of untreated ADHD.

For those living in ADHD's perpetual "state of overwhelm," goals are rarely fully met. These women often suffer from poor self-esteem or lack of confidence, believing they can never work up to their full potential. Unchecked, these symptoms can lead to mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

With the numerous demands put on women today, how does one discern whether forgetfulness, disorganization and distractibility are warning flags or simply fall-out from an overly busy lifestyle? A quantitative electroencephalogram (QEEG) brain map tracks brain-wave patterns and provides empirical data that can be used to determine if certain neurological conditions like ADHD are present; for example a "Q" showing elevated theta waves in the frontal area of the brain can indicate an attention disorder.

Moms with ADHD tend to place themselves "at the bottom of the totem pole." Their own needs are rarely met since the ADHD symptoms often make it longer to
accomplish tasks. In order be efficient as a parent, the brain must be performing with optimal function. Neurofeedback therapy, a proven, non-drug brain-wave training program based in over 40 years of clinical research, can help adults as well as children normalize brain-wave patterns to help overcome ADHD symptoms - without a lifelong dependence on ADHD medications (and their accompanying side effects.)

Call or email us to learn how this amazing technology can help you rein in your own
focus and attention issues and optimize brain function to help you overcome symptoms -- and become a more effective parent. We're offing $50 off an initial Q this month.

Hello Lifestyle Resolutions...
Good-bye Repetitive New Years' Resolutions
by  Holistic Health Coach Kelly Hoffman, HHC

Investing in yourself and your lifestyle now means never again having to make those New Years' resolutions to eat better, diet, exercise, etc. because you will already be there!

We all have done it at one time or another: giving into diet trends; joining the packed gyms in January only to drop it a few months later; eating really well and depriving ourselves, only to eventually binge on all those foods that we miss.

For this new year, invest in yourself and your lifestyle so at this time next year and the next year, and the year after that, you won't find yourself stuck in that same situation, making the same resolutions over and over again.

Dealing with Post-Holiday Stress Naturally

The holidays often come with a mixed bag of emotions -- while the festivities can bring joy and excitement, the frenzied preparations, travel and time commitments (and don't forget the inevitable January holiday bills!) can take a toll on the body. Post-holiday stress is a common aftermath of the hectic pace of the season.

Creating a plan to bring your life back in balance will help reduce your stress. Try these simple steps for your mental and physical well-being:

Finding Relief of Chronic Gas and Bloating with Acupuncture

Acupuncture is widely known as an effective ancient form of Chinese medicine for treating pain, but did you know that it is also an ideal natural tool for relief of bloating, gas and irritable bowl syndrome?

Studies of patients suffering from gastrointestinal disorders have found that stimulating specific acupressure points throughout the body triggers a healing response, helping to restore the flow of vital life energy, known as "chi" which aids in restoring health. Acupuncture has been shown to help revise acid secretion, restore intestinal motility and relieve abdominal pain. (Learn more here:)

Lori Fortunato, LAc, has extensive experience using acupuncture for weight loss, bloating and digestive issues. If holiday overindulgence has left your stomach feeling queasy and bloated, or with extra unwanted pounds, come in for a visit with Lori. She's offering private pay patients $25 off an initial session. 631.265.1223.
