Special January Hours

NEW YEAR’S: both library locations will close at 4 PM on Saturday, December 31, and will be closed on New Year's Day, Sunday, January 1 and Monday, January 2 (federal observance). Normal hours resume Tuesday, January 3. 

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY: both library locations will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2017. 

"Save Room for Pie!" 10th Annual Pie Potluck

Bring the whole family to celebrate the American Pie Council's National Pie Day with story sharing led by Beverly storyteller Tony Toledo, followed by a "Pie Potluck"! The main library and Farms branch will make federal and state income tax forms available as soon as they arrive. Quantities may be limited and are determined by the IRS and MA Department of Revenue. Find more information, including helpful state and federal links, here
4th Annual "Bad Art" Night

Going a bit stir-crazy during this cold, dark winter? Well, we can help. Come make BAD ART with us! We’ll supply the basics, refreshments, and a few BAD ideas. Reference Spotlight: Fold3

Researching your family history? We’ve recently added Ancestry’s Fold3 to our Learning Resources offerings. Fold3 provides convenient access to military records, including the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served. This resource is perfect for genealogists, historians, teachers, veterans and more. Fold3 is available to Beverly residents only and accessible either from home or at the library. "Deep Freeze" Pop-Up Book Sale

Saturday, February 11 from 10 AM - 4 PM
Barnet Gallery, Main Library
One day only! Break free of the winter doldrums and come browse books, DVDs, CDs and Friends merchandise all at book sale prices. Refresh your winter or vacation reading supply while helping the Friends support the many programs of the library. Hardcovers $2, paperbacks $1, all children's books 2/$1  - cash or check accepted. Complimentary refreshments will be available.

2016 Staff Picks 
Looking for a good book? The staff of the Beverly Public Library are pleased to share their favorite books published in 2016. You’ll find a variety of titles, including a graphic novel about the horrors of adulthood, historical fiction set in the Civil War era, a heartfelt memoir about siblings clearing out their deceased parents’ house, and much more. Check out our handy catalog list to read summaries and request the books online!

21st Annual Teen Poetry Contest
Calling all teen poets! Starting Wednesday, January 4, 2017, the library will accept entries from local teens in grades 6 through 12 for our Annual Teen Poetry Contest. Complete information including rules, submission form, and other details will be posted to the  Teens page by the opening date.

The following events are open to young adults in grades 6 through 12: 
  • Pizza Book Club:  Wed., January 11, 3:45 - 4:45 PM, Sohier Room. Read a great book, discuss it, and eat free pizza! Open to teens in grades 6-12, but is especially good for middle school. Our book this quarter is The Raft by S. A. Bodeen. Registration required.
  • Pizza and a Movie: Suicide Squad: Thursday, January 26, 3:45 - 6 PM, Sohier Room.  Join us for this new release on our big screen and eat free pizza! 
  • Anime Club: Tuesday, January 17 from 3:30 - 5:30 PM, Sohier Room. No signup needed. 
New Museum Pass: EcoTarium 

The main library is now offering a discount museum pass for the EcoTarium in Worcester, MA. Using the pass, admission is half price for up to 2 adults and 2 children. Children under 2 are free, and parking is also free. Reserve the pass here, or by calling our Circulation staff at 978-921-6062. Thanks to the Friends of the Beverly Public Library for providing this pass!

"Take Your Child to the Library Day"!
Saturday, February 4, 2017
On this special day we'll celebrate with two story times and a raffle. Thanks to the Friends of the Beverly Public Library for sponsoring this program. 

Winter Story Times  will begin the week of January 8, 2017. Additional January programs include:
  • A Little Night Music & Rhyme: Mondays at 6:30 PM (will not meet January 2). Musical rhythmic fun for families and kids under 5 (or so). Signup not required. 
  • Lego Club: Thursday, January 12 from 3:30 - 4:30 PM. For grades K through 5. Drop-in program, no signup needed. 
  • Musical Mornings with Miz Liz: Saturday, January 14 at 10 AM. Fun, interactive musical mix for age 0 - 5 and caregivers. Signup not required. 
  • Science Squad for grades 1 - 5: Thursday, January 27 at 3:30 PM. This session's topic is tools! Signup not required.

“Revolutionary Poster Art"
January 4 - 30, Sohier Room, Main Library
View an exhibit of international revolutionary poster art from the poster collection of labor activist Stephen Lewis. Information about the posters and Mr. Lewis will be available in the exhibit room. The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular library hours, and may be viewed when library programs or community meetings are not in progress. Winter Pre-School Story Times and "Tales for Tots" begin the week of January 8, 2016. And please join us for these upcoming programs: 
  • Music with Dara: THURSDAY, January 19 at 10:45 AM. A monthly interactive music program for children, ages 18 months to 5 years old. 
  • Celebrate Chinese New Year: Thursday, January 26 at 3:30 PM. For kids age 6 - 11. It’s the Chinese Year of the Rooster! Join us for stories, crafts and activities. *Please register in advance.*
  • Knitting for Charity: Knit or crochet a warm winter item for a child or adult in need and drop off at the Farms branch in January. Items will be donated to Beverly Bootstraps and given free to needy adults or children. 
Art @ the Farms: “Observations in Paint”
January 4 - 30, Conrad Lecture Hall
Watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings by artist Marilyn Swift, along with stone lithographs. “Artist’s Reception” on Saturday, January 14 from 1 - 4 PM.
